Re: What Essays Would You Still Like To See

In case you want a few more, there are some others in the history section. Word of Wisdom: "... it required time to wind down practices that were so deeply ingrained in family tradition and culture... The term “strong drink” certainly included distilled spirits like whiskey, which hereafter the Latt...

Re: What Essays Would You Still Like To See

At the end of the MSNBC interview that Nibbler posted in the History section, the interviewee Laurie mentioned that the church may be producing an essay about Women and the Priesthood. This resurrected a thought I have had on and off this month - what other essays would I like to see. I hadn't cons...

Re: Historical Perspective

...the LDS Church is not unique in ANY way ... But that's kind of the problem for me. If the church really is everything it claims to be then surely it should be different to all the other churches. If a prophet doesn't actually act like a prophet or if a church said to be led by Christ doesn't act...

Re: Does historicity matter?

... If you leave the Church, you leave a valid baptism, you leave any chance of kingdom of glory. You are a son of perdition, forever. Leaving the Church makes no sense, WHATsoever, for any reason... ;) Cwald... That was about as succinct a response as could have been given. Rsbenson... Either you'...

Re: Difference and dignity essay (mormonnewsroom)

This advice from Elder Oaks is important: We should love all people, be good listeners, and show concern for their sincere beliefs. Though we may disagree, we should not be disagreeable. Our stands and communications on controversial topics should not be contentious. https://www.lds.org/general-conf...

Re: Difference and dignity essay (mormonnewsroom)

My only concern is that some members could read this and completely miss the point. While we read it and celebrate an encouragement to have diversity within Mormonism, others could read it as the church defending its right to be different to others (non-Mormons) and not have to adapt doctrine/policy...

Re: Useful quote of the day...

Since no particular group has a monopoly on all that is wise, beautiful and just, everyone can learn from everyone else. Our experiences have gaps that need to be bridged, and our perspectives have blind spots that need to be filled. We find meaning in human connection when we climb out of ourselve...

Difference and dignity essay (mormonnewsroom)

Not sure if this has already been shared. http://www.mormonnewsroom.org/article/difference-and-dignity?adbid=530099778986590208&adbpl=tw&adbpr=10047382&cid=social_20141105_35082877 My favourite part: Since no particular group has a monopoly on all that is wise, beautiful and just, everyone can learn...

Re: Does historicity matter?

I agree with him. I think even if a fully fledged Nephite city were to be found down a sinkhole in the Yucatan, it would not actually impact the message of the BoM that much, other than proving it didn't all come out of JS' head. I like the Book of Mormon, but it's not the history or lack thereof, ...

Do what is right let the consequence follow.

This hymn has taken a whole new meaning to me this year.
