Re: I Came Out To My Wife

SD , thanks for your feedback. It’s important for to let my kids know that I no longer have a testimony. I don’t want them to be deceived into thinking I’m a believer because I attend with them. I want to see them get married, so I hope they will get not get married in a temple – at least not initi...

Re: I Came Out To My Wife

I appreciate everyone’s comments and I will to reply to them, but I first want to give an update on my situation. Last night my wife told me that our bishop invited her into his office during the Sunday School hour. He asked her about my situation and she told him about my doubts regarding the pries...

Re: I Came Out To My Wife

Thanks, Ray. That's good advice. I suppose I have only a faint hope that she will see things the way I do. I need to think more about how to make things work over the long term as "unequally yoked" partners.

I Came Out To My Wife

So I finally came out to my wife, who is TBM. It didn't come out of the blue. It was over four years ago when I told her “With all the stuff Brigham Young said, there is no way he could have been a prophet." But I got through that and I was still a TBM, but a questioning one. I've told her about som...

Re: If you liked Mason's talk at FairMormon, you'll Love thi

From the presentation: Apologetics can be broadly defined as “the attempt to integrate faith and reason in making a rational case for belief.” It has a long and distinguished history in both Christianity and Mormonism (and in other religions as well). People have got to stop saying things like that ...

Re: Not angry, just done - fMh polygamy post

I am not a fan of FAIR, by the way. My post was kind of saying "Look, even this super biased apologist doesn't support the notion that Henry abandoned his family." While I do think William Hall's account doesn't have much support, Zina's story is ugly all over the place and reading about it even fro...

Re: Not angry, just done - fMh polygamy post

I actually found that article about Zina last week and I don't like it. The article “Zina and Her Men” ( FairMormon link ) makes it clear that Henry did not desert them. It states: After the 1844 death of Joseph Smith, the Saints in Nauvoo redoubled their efforts to complete the temple. Early on the...

Re: First vision accounts now available in gospel library

2) The first account mentions one personage; the other three accounts mention two personages. If honestly retold, the first might have been a synopsis or summary that focused on the question of whether he had seen "the Lord"; the second one might have been a chronological restelling (one followed s...

Re: First vision accounts now available in gospel library

I have some concerns regarding the First Vision accounts. I’ve studied all of the available accounts and have notes on the four that are summarized on the church essay. These are: 1832: The earliest known account of the First Vision, the only account written in Joseph Smith’s own hand, is found in a...
