The Original General Conference Drinking Game

General Conference is a special time of year in the world of Mormonism. Some love it. Some hate it. Some are inspired by it. Some mock it. However you want to celebrate conference, I'm inviting you to join in the Original General Conference Drinking Game. I know. It sounds crazy! But this isn't abou...

Re: Taking Religion Seriously

Hey Hawkgrrrll it looks like we read the same articles. I'm friends with Dennis Prager on Facebook, (maybe the correct terminology is "I follow him") and he shared a link to that article, and then I shared his link to that article. It's great. Thanks. "follow".... "stalk".... six of one half dozen ...

Gideon,

I felt such a sense of peace reading your post. Thank you so much for sharing it here. I share many of your conclusions.

Re: Mourning

university, I'm so glad you posted. Welcome! I think you'll find you fit in just fine. In my experience, the heartbreak resulting from faith crisis is a testament to how invested you have been in the church/faith. If you didn't care, it wouldn't hurt. You'll find many people here who can empathize.

Re: Future of the Top Leadership

I'm just catching up on this thread (so I hope this isn't repetitious) but wanted to add that the stories I've heard from people who know Elder Packer are that he is a teddy bear in real life - very approachable and kind - just like a grandpa. The other stories are that Pres. Monson is extremely exa...

Re: Future of the Top Leadership

I'm not sure why Holland gets so much the love. There is a thinly veiled anger to him that really is quite off-putting IMO. I also think the anger is increasingly apparent. When apostles are newly called, they seem so humbled by the office and their talks are powerful. Several have come across as i...

PTCS - Post Traumatic Church Syndrome

Someone posted this on Facebook this morning and I immediately thought of some of us here. http://www.patheos.com/blogs/faithforward/2014/03/its-called-post-traumatic-church-syndrome-and-yes-its-real/ PTCS presents as a severe, negative — almost allergic — reaction to inflexible doctrine, outright a...

Re: Falling Upward

I loved this book. Listened to the audible version and couldn't turn it off. It struck so many familiar chords.

Re: Faking it is bad for your mental health

This is why it's good for me NOT to work in customer service.

I can't fake emotions ever. I'm pathologically transparent. I would make a terrible counselor because people would be hurt when my mouth said "Let's discuss that a bit..." and my face said "What the hell were you thinking?!?"
