Re: Truly Horrible TR interview

I am sorry for your experience. My bishop has been fairly understanding, even acknowledging that some of our expectations in the church are not realistic (his comment, "you will never here this from the pulpit but..." meant so much to me just to acknowledge that I wasn't insane). But Bishop has not ...

Re: Does the BoM contradict Mormonism?

It just seems like at the core, the BoM has to be literally true or there is no point in the lds faith. what do we believe then? if it just self help book based on vague symbolism, well there's a section of those at the library. if it is not divine text then it might as well be from oprah. At my ur...

Re: Is faith just a matter of deciding to believe?

At sacrament meeting today one of the speakers made the point that faith was just a matter of deciding to believe. In SS someone made the exact same comment. We were taliking about the parable of the sower and the 4 soil types and this lent itself well to talking about how to become the good "belie...

Re: Does the Catholic church still have the priesthood?

I was just saying the concept of the priesthood is just a man made concept so how can you keep or lose something that does not really exist. really was not referring to men or women. Your comment just reminded me of a time when a non-member friend was bemoaning that women were undervalued in the LD...

Re: Love Wins by Rob Bell

The comments posted on the http://www.patheos.com/community/lovean ... ll-church/ were almost all negative. Things like "his (Mr. Bell's) followers are all following him off a cliff." It is a reminder just how dogmatic and certain people can be. According to some, Mr. Bell's questioning whether Ghan...

Re: Marriage, it's what bring us together today

It sounds like you have deep internal conflict between your behaviors and goals in life. They don't match. If you want to live the Mormon dream of being married in the temple, active in Church (so you can go to the temple), and living that whole lifestyle, then you have to change your behaviors -- ...

Re: Early church against medicine?

Kind of a bummer we canonized the polygamy revelation. I wonder...can you uncanonize something?? You mean like they did with the Lectures on Faith? I'm pretty sure that they could if they wanted to. Maybe they could restore the anti-polygamy section that was replaced by 132. I'm sure the church lea...

Roy, few, I've lived both of your examples - paying tithing and losing a house, and paying tithing and getting help from the Church to stay in a house. Thank you Ray. You inspire me, not because your experience is more "true" than the typical but because it is more varied. What about the other 99.9...

Re: Love Wins!

As He concluded the beatitudes, just before He invited us to be perfect, the Savior reiterated this very message. He said love those who despitefully use you for if you love those who love you, what are you doing that's extraordinary? Even the publicans do that, He said. The call to perfection (exa...

Re: I got baptised for a boy...sigh.

Hi GreenTangerine, I have a very controlling and judgmental mother-in-law. It is difficult for me to tell if her interpretation of Mormon teachings made her the person she is or if she was always inclined to be controlling and judgmental and just interprets Mormon teachings to justify herself. Short...
