Re: New! And confused!

Welcome Dean,

I have had similar experiences and I believe I have displayed my differences as a "badge of honor" sometimes, but it can be a lonely road. I still crave approval, I still want validation.

You are among friends here.

Re: Thoughts on the good & bad of the LDS church?

•A lot of structure and programs in place to emphasize the family. For example we often hear recommendations to go on a weekly date with our spouse, to spend quality, meaningful time with children, etc. A thought occurred to me, that is related to this. I believe that LDS men are typically more fam...

Re: Thanks for the welcome

After mulling it over for months I finally told my wife where I was at. I was somewhat surprised by her reaction. She knew I had deep doubts in the past. For some reason it hit her a lot harder this time. Perhaps because she thought my doubts forever gone; perhaps because I was more definite. I kin...

Re: RE: Joseph Smith-Dispensation Head v. Stewardship Prophe

My point in quoting JS was to show that he acknowledged that even HE got bad ideas in his head and wrongly believed at times they were from God; finding out later that the results went horribly wrong. I guess I just assumed that if you were a prophet you'd know when God was talking to you and wante...

Re: Choice spirits born with disabilities?

I thank God I live in a day when such ideas are more or less universally recognized to be evil. Now whether or not HBL actually said those horrid things is another matter. The SWK talk I was just referencing also has a portion relevant to being born with disabilities... We knew before we were born ...

Re: Garments and body image

The tops are much easier for me, (although I still don't like them because my shoulders are my favorite body part.) but the bottoms play into my body image way too much. When I look at myself in the mirror in them I see a fat, thick gross body. My legs are my trouble areas. Since the mental impact ...

Re: Choice spirits born with disabilities?

I've often heard that people with mental disabilities are the noble souls that God wanted to make sure would return. I also remember an accident in the town where I lived that took the life of a baby less than a year old. I heard later that the parents stated that they always had a "feeling" that t...

Re: Unfit to be bishop

Welcome Closet, As far as working out your beliefs: give it time and don't make any sudden declarations. I find that some of what I just dismissed as a pack of lies only a year ago, I am now able to appreciate for the allegorical and moral value (sorta like Aesop’s Fables). If your belief is in flux...

Re: Positive way of effecting change

In the wards where the youth were terrors, the parents were cliquish, materialistic, judgmental of one another - inevitably un-righteously so, and marked by a lack of charity and compassion. They saw themselves as either herding lesser saints or being herded by lesser saints. Their lack of respect ...
