Re: Two Hour Church

Stated earlier. I've known some leaders, local and otherwise, that felt the need to stamp out social aspects of the church. You don't come to church to socialize, you come to church to save and be saved! But we missed that little detail where we save and are saved via our social interactions. But w...

Re: The Church to match box office sales ...

I have been ruminating on this over night. It might be a smart marketing strategy. 1) the church makes a charitable donation that produces good works. 2) the church encourages people to see a movie that helps support (at least tangentially) church goals. 3) Rather than just do a one time donation, t...

Re: The Church to match box office sales ...

Good question. Is the church trying to increase ticket sales? People may feel like they are treating the family to a movie and donating to charity at the same time.

Why would the church care about ticket sales?

The progressive believer would draw a lot of overlapping circles. A nerdy one might color-code the resulting regions by application area.
I like it!

Re: I May Throw Up...

I am not sure exactly the context of how it was said but DW reported that President Oaks listed people getting married later as if it was a bad thing. This was concerning to her because we know of a number of couples that got married young and it did not quite end well. DW and I married at the ripe ...

Re: Why do you stay?

I do have plans some day to lower my regular commitment to it. I am just thinking on this concept. In my formative years the church was my cradle. As a young adult it was my "match-maker". As a middle-aged family man it is a support structure I lean on to help raise my children. We serve in calling...

PR Misdirection

That's not getting lost on your way to Puerto Rico. This is about the public relations explanations for church changes that seem to ignore any practical reasons for the change. Often when undergoing a faith crisis there is a feeling of betrayal. There is often much in the history of the church that ...

Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

This just occurred to me: D&C 107 2 Why the first is called the Melchizedek Priesthood is because Melchizedek was such a great high priest. 3 Before his day it was called the Holy Priesthood, after the Order of the Son of God. 4 But out of respect or reverence to the name of the Supreme Being, to av...

Re: Small foot movie and faith crisis

I appreciate that dande. I suppose I was responding to the questions that I felt were leading. Only very few "head in the sand" and "all is well in Zion" individuals would not want to know about an illness or infidelity from a spouse. I feel that be an unfair comparison. I suppose a better phrasing ...

Re: Small foot movie and faith crisis

Have not seen the movie yet but it looks funny. Our western culture tends to value individuals that challenge the status quo at great personal sacrifice. 1. Are you brave enough to question things and be ostracized because you want to know the truth? Is it alright to challenge and question your pare...
