Re: Is it wrong?

It is all about choice. I don't believe that testimonies like your father described exist. Testimonies are formed because we have a spiritual experience and choose some interpretation of it. We can feel something while we're reading the BoM and we choose to interpret that feeling as the BoM is of Go...

Re: Being Muzzled!

What lesson manual did your bishop teach his lesson from? Also, auxiliary presidencies are supposed to choose something to teach once a month. I have a different perspective. I believe that the purpose for meeting together is to learn from each other. I definitely get more out of people sharing thei...

Re: First sunday in a new ward

Your ward sounds great. I'm in my late 20s and single and fitting into the LDS church can be difficult. Singles wards feel artificial and lack diversity in experience. Family wards in my area don't know how to treat someone who is single because they usually go to the singles ward. The combined meet...

Re: Helping the Living vs. the Dead

I think that these different things fulfill different things in people. I think attending the temple does something different than family history work also. I have peaceful and thoughtful time when I attend the temple and I feel the spirit there more often than not. I don't do family history work bu...

Re: Views on participating in Temple and other ordinances

I feel comfortable at the temple so I go. I receive more personal revelation when I am at the temple than any other time. There's a lot of value to me in that. I don't know how much I believe that temple ordinances are essential or important. Or that I am really affecting deceased persons by what I ...

Re: When did the fall happen?

Unfortunately, I don't think your questions have actual answers. You either need to decide the answers for yourself or accept that the questions have no answer. If I were in your position, feeling troubled by these ideas, I would spend time pondering the story of the fall and see what resonates with...

Re: Quick question on the Three Nephites and John the Beloved

As far as I know, no church leaders have stated that any of the mormon myth three nephite stories were true. The account of the discussion with John is in John 21:20-23. The Book of Mormon manual says this: Note: Stories often circulate about the three Nephites who were translated. Members of the Ch...

Re: I think I am on the way back

Way to go! It's been two years since the former foundation of my faith was profoundly shaken. I never stopped attending church but I skip some meetings when I don't feel up to it or worry that it'll make me more upset than feel the spirit. In the last six months, I have finally started to feel prett...

Re: Temple recommend...or not?

I usually will go to a counselor in the bishopric rather than the bishop for a temple recommend interview. Especially since the bishop is your business partner, it might be easier to ask a counselor if he can help you.

Re: The transition from "real" to metaphor

1. There are definitely callings that I would not be a good fit for and would inform whoever was extending the calling. I don't think that I could be a ward missionary because I am not comfortable with the missionary program right now. (I am hoping it's just a phase.) But there are things that I am ...
