Re: General Conference on Easter....

Mormons do a crap job with Easter anyway. In your average ward, maybe you would get a couple of talks about Christ's last week, crucifixion and resurrection and a couple of hymns with Easter themes. From my experience, SS is almost never focused on Easter because they have to follow the schedule and...

Re: Do I have to Go to Church?

I personally have always really liked Moroni 6 especially verses 5 and 6. In my opinion, this describes the main purpose for going to church. 5 And the church did meet together oft, to fast and to pray, and to speak one with another concerning the welfare of their souls. 6 And they did meet together...

Re: Influence of Message Forums

I think that it depends on the person. I'm not an easily swayed person so I don't know if they have a profound influence on my opinions or beliefs. I find two main benefits to message boards. First, they are a good sounding board. As we are trying to understand ourselves, others and God better, havi...

Re: Lunch with the EQP

It doesn't seem like you have much to be nervous about with the lunch. I would make sure that you tell him that you want anything you say to be private, just in case. But he seems like he just wants to have lunch with you. I would take the opportunity to talk about whatever you want to talk about. I...

Re: Uchtdorf and "Weightier Matters"

I think there are too many rules. But whether a person allows himself to get caught up in the rules is up to the individual. I might put the WoW up as an example of where the rules help to keep people in line with weightier matters. I believe the principle behind the WoW is to live free of addiction...

Re: What a great night for me!

Thanks for sharing. It might end up being a little tough for your son at BYU and choosing to not serve a mission. I had one friend when I was at BYU in 2004 who chose not to serve a mission. He was 20 and he had a hard time dating because many girls didn't want to date him because of not going on a ...

Re: What do I believe now?

I'd be surprised if your bishop would actually call you in if your recommend expires. I don't think most bishops pay attention to that kind of stuff. I think it's a good idea to let your bishop know what can be helpful to you. He can talk to your hometeachers about some helpful boundaries. It seems ...

Re: What do I believe now?

It takes a long time. I'm two years in and I'm still figuring some things out. My first step was to go through the articles of faith and see what I believe regarding those topics. I still put quite a bit of faith in the spiritual experiences that I have had. After some months I stopped forcing mysel...

Re: WTF is Faith, anyway?

I think faith is choosing to believe something. When we choose to believe something we put a measure of trust in that belief. I think that is the confidence idea that you mentioned. I don't think that there is a clear line of distinction between faith and hope. Maybe with faith you have put more tru...

Re: a scripture to rethink

I liked looking at this passage again. Thanks. First of all, the first principle of the gospel is faith in Jesus Christ, not just faith. My perspective on knowledge is that the only things we know are what we experience. I absolutely don't agree with the statement that knowledge saves us. Only Chris...
