Re: Really, why do we put so much emphasis on temples?

"HiJolly Being immersed in it as they are, the possibility for them to actually see the 'hidden' light is greatly enhanced. The cloud upon the sanctuary parts and reveals that light which cannot be expressed by mortal tongue. Sorry, but you lost me there. Experiences that people describe in the tem...

Re: Really, why do we put so much emphasis on temples?

Speaking for myself, my problem is that since this was presented at GC, this anecdote now sets the standard. But we all know that the story is not 'standard', or it never would have been mentioned. We know it is *exceptional*, meaning, a drastic exception from what most people do. So I sincerely ho...

Re: Really, why do we put so much emphasis on temples?

So, I like the comments so far, but what about my second question. You know, when I heard that story about the guy who left his family for four years to save money to take his fam to the temple, I thought, sure, this is perhaps a faith promoting story to some LDS members. But to me, it was sad and ...

Re: Really, why do we put so much emphasis on temples?

Why do you think it was unnecessary? or unrealistic? Why was it not faith promoting to you? These questions are rhetorical, your answer to them is valuable only to yourself, internally. They are extremely worth time & effort in meditation and pondering within yourself. Why do others feel otherwise?...

Re: Really, why do we put so much emphasis on temples?

Oh temples, how do I love thee? Let me count the ways! Temples are a blend of occultic (masonic) and early Christian ritual worship. From Masonry we get the movement between room/kingdoms/degrees, names, grips & tokens, formal ritual, clothing and some things we no longer have, such as the 5 points ...

Re: Is God's Love Conditional?

HiJolly- thanks for the explanation. Nelson's article is a very funny way to say that God will not bless you if you sin. I now want to know how does God bless our lives? In conference over the weekend I heard that if you pay your tithing God will bless you with all sorts of things from the blessing...

Re: Is Obedience the 1st Law of Heaven?

I actually do believe that obedience is the first law of heaven though I see it in a different way than most have described it thus far. I see the word "first" as an ordinal reference describing the progression of learning rather than a hierarchy of importance. In other words, the first thing we ha...

Re: Is God's Love Conditional?

Elder Nelson was asked to write the article with a particular emphasis and so was approaching the subject with a point in mind. So it's not at all a balanced approach, and he says so (after the fact). It was not intended to be all encompasing, from his statement (which I can't find right now, darn ...
