Re: TR Question Survey - Question 10b: Word of Wisdom

I'm gonna vote YES.... However, I eat way too much meat...probably every day. I drink beer, but I don't over-indulge.....and I don't drink hard liquor or wine. I enjoy a good cigar when fly-fishing from time to time. For a formal TR interview, I would flunk. Between me and the Lord, I feel that I'm ...

Re: On the Newness of Revelation

What used to be angelic visitations and visions that produced "thus saith the Lord" revelations has morphed into "still small voice" inspiration. Although some might call that "revelation"...depending upon who is receiving it. I can't think of a religion that changed with society to be more popular ...

Re: How the Mormons Make Money

I think that the current trend toward members leaving and/or becoming disillusioned might be, in part, helped by the Church(TM) being transparent as to where the financial resources go. I paid my 10% for many years and would like to know where it went. I went from being a TBM to a fundamentalist to....

Re: How the Mormons Make Money

Wow. The purpose of this website is, supposedly, to help folks stay LDS despite problems in the Church(TM). It feels, sometimes, that we're all holding back from the opinions that what we call "the Church" has become an ugly corporate oligarchy. What haunts me, and maybe some of you, is the question...

Re: How the Mormons Make Money

Holy mackerel.

Well, as long as we're shooting for that "no rich or poor among us", and "all things in common" thing....I don't see any problems here...

Re: TR Question Survey - Question 4: Sustaining LDS Leadersh

An emphatic NO. God calls prophets...people call "Church presidents". Are we to assume that when the church was organized, that if Joseph Smith was not sustained by the members as a prophet, seer, and revelator that he would somehow cease to be one? I think he made it clear in one of his last speech...

Re: Translation

Wayfarer, In regards to your #4...."The papyrus, having been duplicated in the BoA facsimiles and in Joseph's notes, is the actual papyrus that Joseph Smith purchased and used for the 'translation'." Are you open to the possibility that there were more papyri, and the BoA portion were lost? You guys...

Re: Translation

I really want to share Ray's point of view. But. He made a rather elaborate showing of making an Egyptian alphabet, etc. This is what caused my disaffection from the mainstream church back in the day....I accepted the apologetic explanations for a long time but...it still bugs the crap out of me. Ap...
