Re: What do you Think? Issues with my Bishop

Thus the reason I stated what "I" would do. "insensitive about a family practice"? Really? She's been telling this clown to stop for a year. Some might call that "insensitivity" on the part of this adult male....some might call it stereotypical behavior of a very sick person. Personally I would err ...

Re: What do you Think? Issues with my Bishop

I started not to comment...went outside and did some work and couldn't get it out of my mind. Have we forgotten the scandals of the Catholic priests from a few years back? Let me get this straight...you have been warning this creep for over a year to have zero texts to your kids without your consent...

Re: How Do You Promote Diversity in Your Ward?

I'm afraid that as long as the majority of the folks on the podium are white guys with conservative haircuts and business suits, diversity is going to be a token gesture at best. Sometimes, out of disgust, I think we should just chunck it all...everyone show up with just the scriptures....let's read...

Re: RE: Will the Church ever appeal to the working class?

There is a huge, and growing, anti-corporate sentiment in our country. Especially in the current political climate. Perhaps forcing missionaries to portray white-collar types is not conducive to attracting those that subscribe to it. It could be percieved as the notion that white-collar is somehow "...

Re: RE: Will the Church ever appeal to the working class?

IMHO a step in the right direction might be to reconsider those "men in black" costumes that the missionaries wear. I don't know anywhere in the world....ok...maybe Utah or at a funeral...where that is considered proper attire anymore. Especially in a working class environment. Who thinks this stuff...

Re: Mormons and mental illness

Yep.
Sad situation.
Perhaps as bad is the way us mormons treat those with alcohol and/or drug addictions.
We don't know how to fix it so the easiest, and perhaps most cruel, thing to do is to treat is as a moral issue.

Re: sermons vs talks

Yep. I hesitate to quote Brigham Young, since no one listens to him anyway...but he said something to the effect that "you shouldn't speak in church unless moved on by the spirit". The current corporate website even gives advice on how to "prepare" "talks". I've attended services at the AUB congrega...

sermons vs talks

This is probably a most irrelevant topic but its something that just bugs me. Joseph Smith "preached sermons"...Brigham Young refered to his "preaching" in the same terms, I believe. Jesus preached....but President Monson....yep....he "gives talks". When did we decide that "preaching a sermon" neede...

Re: The Parentage of Jesus

I'll throw my unsolicited opinion in the mix. Here we go: Mary was indeed sealed to HF. Possibly when she was overcome with the spirit. There is no incest there due to the many generations that had past. An exalted being, with a body of flesh, bones, and water...breeds with a mortal being of flesh, ...

Re: A Pre-Mortal Life?

I've always wondered if those of us born into impoverished situations or developmentaly disabled folks were, in fact, the more valiant. Maybe they are here to teach us charity and compassion toward others....whether they be poor individuals, groups, or nations. No scriptural backup....just speculati...
