Re: Trying to make sense of Joseph Smith

Of course Joseph was not forthcoming to everyone regading his plural marriages. You could say that it was self-preservation ... or it could have been for the preservation of a new and everlasting principle of the gospel that hadn't been revealed to the Church as a whole yet. I've always looked at it...

Re: Defining the Priesthood

Good points Ray. I'd respectfully take issue with a couple. The three wise men thing .... there may have been dozens of wise men or only two...there is no record of three. No big deal . As I regard Peter, James, and John in their resurrected form as living people, just as Jesus in his resurrected fo...

Re: Defining the Priesthood

I'm not sure where Lehi got his priesthood. Nephi, I assume, had his conferred by Lehi.
I don't know about Alma either but I believe it is always an unbroken chain.

Re: Defining the Priesthood

I would have a problem with women receiving the priesthood except through the 2nd annointing. However, I don't view it as something denied to them but rather that they have higher callings. A woman shares her husbands priesthood exercising it through him. A man shares his gift at bringing forth post...

Re: Defining the Priesthood

Well, I would respectfully disagree with the idea that the priesthood is administrative rights in the Church. Abraham, Issac, Jacob...all had the priesthood. I think we can agree on that. There was no Church present. Joseph Smith and Oliver Cowdry had the priesthood bestowed upon them. At that time,...

Re: Trying to make sense of Joseph Smith

One of my pet analogies concerning Lying for the Lord/Honesty etc. is the story of Nephi and Laban.

Nephi put on Laban's clothes to fool his servant.

Was that "honest"? Of course not.

Was it the right thing to do? Of course.

My 2 cents...mileage may vary.

Re: Historic Mormon Conundrums - one sentence thoughts.

OK..I'll bite from a fundamentalist view: Blacks..I don't pretend to know why they are denied the priesthood in this life...The bottom line is, they are. Polygamy..alive and well The means of translating the BOM.. peepstones in a hat as I understand. The Lord used something that Joseph could underst...

Re: New Convert

I remember feeling the same way. The members of your ward/branch are not trying to ostracize you but simply forget how it feels to be new. They're just human. Hang in there. Your time will come and you'll be grateful for the experiences.
May God bless you and yours and welcome to the gospel.

New here

Well, I've been lurking here for awhile. My wife and I actually recently embraced (I won't say converted to) fundamentalist Mormonism after all our adult lives in the Church. We're in our early 50's, love the church and recognize it as a devine instituion although, in my opinion, somewhat temporaril...
