Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

There are definitely a lot of BAD examples of leadership in the church.

It's why I always appreciate the few that buck the trend and do it their own way.

Re: Spiritual Anchors

. In fact, the only real reason he decided to go, was because the opportunity was scarce, and entering the temple was (after dedication) very exclusive. Those two facts caused him to take a mental shortcut to decide to do something he really had no interest in doing. That's interesting!! Lots of tr...

Re: Interesting Insight from an Unexpected Source

I found it surprising and comforting that my shift back to a more humanist (both from a personal and societal) perspective is historically what happened globally. Fowler's stages of faith were similarly comforting to me. Not Mormon. I also work with a Catholic organization and have seen their accep...

Should we be really careful about invoking God's name and attributing his hand to different natural or human events?

Re: Never sure when to give kudos and when not to!

If you want a positive experience, practice giving kudos 5 times more than you criticize it. Focusing on the good will help you see it, and feel it. If you don't care, then it doesn't matter. If you are finding negative things 5 times as often as something good, you are sure to suffer more while the...

Re: Why do you stay?

So why do you stay? Mostly because it is something our family does, and so i look for meaning to keep trying and make it worth it. Have your reasons for staying changed over the years? Yes, very much. I expect they will keep changing. What is your definition of "staying"? Still attending church is ...

Re: The Millenium

While things have rarely gone "perfectly" for me, I can see many times in the past where things were going better then I perceived them to be when I was there at the time. I strive to incorporate that memory into my present circumstances - channel it into the hope that we will be able to make every...

Re: Disingenuous, Apathetic, and Aloof

These are a few silly specifically Mormon examples that run counter to human flourishing: - tithing yourself into poverty - wearing garments when they give you a rash or infection or heat problems - divorcing your spouse for non-belief - punishing your children for leaving the church or loving them...

Re: Disingenuous, Apathetic, and Aloof

I think you can feel apathetic about a pursuit of linear progression for knowledge and doctrine, let go of the desire to "figure it all out" and begin a journey of embracing paradox and experiences as they come. Then you begin feeling what's important at church and what is not. It can feel like it s...

Re: The Lord's Name

There's also the theory that taking the name of the lord in vain has more to do with professing to speak for and in behalf of god when you (knowingly) are not. I'd go with this. As a story...on my mission I got scolded by one of the AP's because when I got frustrated I would say... "Oh, cheese and ...
