Re: Name of The Church - Version 152

I say that instead of focusing on our name, we focus on our actions.

Most know nowadays "LDS" or "mormon" is an informal reference, not actual name of church.

God goes by many names, I'm sure he is cool with his church having a few.

Let's worry about the policies and actions that show who we are.

Re: Harm vs. Purity

I explained it all to him and told him there was nothing wrong in any thing we had done He still disfellowshipped me but I still argue I did nothing wrong Do remember feeling any different status with God after the disfellowshipping process? Like...you didn't have as much access to the spirit...the...

Re: The Stonemason

I have a stonemason in my family tree who worked as a stone mason on the Salt Lake temple He fell to his death and left a widow and children You would of thought the Lord would of looked after him Not such luck! I might have thought of some miracles like some kind of special protection in years pas...

Re: A Testimony (?) of Modesty

I didn't think this article was too bad in LDS Living: http://www.ldsliving.com/5-Ways-to-Help-Youth-See-Modesty-Differently/s/78052 Note: This article focuses on modest dress, but the same principles and ideas can and should be applied to modesty in thoughts and actions. 1. Teach youth to be sensit...

Re: Harm vs. Purity

It's a very good post. Love it. Why then, is sex a sin in all cases? A couple has sex once before marriage. They don't tell anyone. They try hard to be careful and not let it happen again. No other partners. No disease. No pregnancy. They get married in the temple. Wherein is the sin? Where does the...

I think that it is more of a pendulum swinging thing to keep the "spirit of the law" at the forefront and update Mormon "culture" to be noticeably more "relevant" in a variety of ways.
Agreed.

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

My problem with this is that there is a formula and procedure they use, right? I've wanted to see what this is like but I suspect they'd sniff out a non-Catholic quickly. I'd do it on vacation somewhere else. From what I understand, the Catholic priesthood will usually accept anyone's confession, C...

Re: Which Hand for Sacrament - LDS Living

Supposedly Neanderthals were left handed as are bears, this may have some significance for why left-handedness is treated as gauche or sinister. I also think there was some Greek translations of "left" as "sinister". There were also some ancient cultures that used their right hand for eating...the ...

Re: Repentance, confessions, and letting go of the past

Thank you Minyan man. Thanks a lot. That was very moving, and straight to the point of the desire I have to help them. They can let go of that bag of sand. They can be in church. They just need the right story in their head so when they go back to church, they don't pick up the bag again. I will try...

Re: How do I

Yikes. Hellfire and brimstone. Some love it. It doesn't really make sense...but some like to make stories. I guess fires do literally cleanse a forest, and seems to be a natural thing. But...it has nothing to do with God or the people who get relocated by the destruction. I guess it is your opportun...
