Re: Disingenuous, Apathetic, and Aloof

I think you can feel apathetic about a pursuit of linear progression for knowledge and doctrine, let go of the desire to "figure it all out" and begin a journey of embracing paradox and experiences as they come. Then you begin feeling what's important at church and what is not. It can feel like it s...

Re: The Lord's Name

There's also the theory that taking the name of the lord in vain has more to do with professing to speak for and in behalf of god when you (knowingly) are not. I'd go with this. As a story...on my mission I got scolded by one of the AP's because when I got frustrated I would say... "Oh, cheese and ...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

I think that is strictly a human construct and that no one really knows what the afterlife will look like. So let's focus on the here and now! I agree. The kingdom system means most of us are peasants for eternity. I mean...a king or queen rules over others, right? We can't all be Kings and Queens....

Re: Further information on the visit of a SP to our home

The Bishop/SP did not call me to repentance and I did not get offended (and, as a bonus, they expressed love for our family and a desire to be of assistance if needed)
this should not be overlooked.

They do care.

I certainly am not doing as much service as they do.

Re: Confusing Organizational Structure and terminology

How could any of them live up to the legend of the prophet Joseph Smith, 2nd in greatness only to Christ? They couldn't. They wouldn't feel worthy. But maybe...with keys...given by the prophet himself...they could still believe in his greatness despite their flaws. As nibbler often mentions...dumbo ...

Re: David O McKay and the Rise of Modern Mormonism

Thanks for sharing the experience. Interesting you got to meet him at a young age. I also liked the book and how a strong leader was able to set a tone, even overlook things that weren't important in order to love others more deeply or focus on the right things, such as the story where he wanted a c...

Re: My Tentative Conclusion about gospel convos with Traditional Believers

In his defense, he didn't say he wanted multiple wives. He's not really that type to even talk about or comment on other women. He's very respectful and admiring of his wife. I felt his conversation(s) on this topic were doctrinal, not personal. I would say that in the same vein as him talking abou...

Re: Lost Time Listener First Time Caller

Welcome to the forum! I look forward to learning from your posts. I have a very nuanced testimony. In that, I believe in a supernatural good force that we call God. I don't think we know much about it and it's hard to understand it. People have tried their best to do that and that is what we have in...

Re: Wayward children of faithful LDS parents

I subscribe to the idea this life gives us experience we may not have been able to gain in another way, but I don't believe it is a test. Maybe life is kind of like University, for those who went to get a degree. There were tests at some times...but university wasn't all a big test. It wasn't all c...
