Re: Gospel Principles class?

Ya...I know what you mean. Some of the lessons bother me too. And sometimes there just isn't a way to ask or express those things with others in there. Eternal families was one I was teaching....I simply asked everyone how it all works for me... sealed, divorced, remarried. How does my eternal famil...

Re: Putting down my pitchfork... er... taking a hiatus.

Enjoy it. Looking for the positive is one of the greatest powers in the universe. Have fun. I agree with mom3. We each find our ways to do this. Church is always there. You can take a break and then find you want to go back when ready. This forum is the same. We're always here chattin about this or...

Re: Spiritual Role of Emotions

I have a good friend who takes anti-depressants intermittently and he has told me this. When he's on his meds his emotions are so blunted that he doesn't often feel what he interprets as the spirit. It's definitely a real and palpable thing for him. I was first counselor to a bishop who told me the...

Re: Questions that may not have answers

A happy middle way can be found. Exactly. Although...that isn't to be found at church as a path available. No one really explains how to find that middle ground. It seems we each find our own path and what works for our situation on our own. But I think God is proud of us when we can figu...

Re: Gospel Principles class?

I'm fine having my own doubts and questions, but I don't want to be the cause of derailing somebody else if they're perfectly happy. HC...don't you kind of think also that the level of thinking you are at is really hard to address in a 40min class anyway? I'm not sure exactly what are some examples...

Re: Gospel Principles class?

But that all depends on the specific teacher. I agree. I taught it for a couple years in my ward and when teaching always took the pulse of the class. When no investigators were there, I found it easy to push the topics and have open discussions. I also would send a sheet around to ask class member...

Re: Questions that may not have answers

He has very strong arguments but I still have belief. I like the foundation. I feel like my children learn to be a good person through the church. I was not really raised in the church. I'm sorry you are feeling lost, but I think you can hold on to these feelings you have as you work through it as ...

Re: Hamula revisited

[Admin update: I think the thread was locked just to keep topics organized and not repeating. (See other thread here: James Hamula, First Quorum of the Seventy, Excommunicated ) It is good to have the two threads linked for background for those who want to follow...but sounds like SamB has a new di...

Re: Spiritual Role of Emotions

I think Joseph Smith struggled with this...trying to find the will of God and bringing emotions in line with the spirit. All of us do. That's how we forge our relationship with God and the spirit, as we determine this for ourselves what we are comfortable with and how to express it. It's an individu...

I thought it meant it was controversial and nibbler was indicating that anyone posting on that thread is going to burn in the hot place for eternity .... Phew... Glad I was wrong
