Re: How to tell my daughter

Great responses. One thing that for sure comes across in your posts is that you are not angry...so I'm sure your daughter and family pick up on that. It is less alarming when you are at peace and doing great things and they see you as "a good person" and maybe they see you are on your journey...open...

Re: Youth and Fan Fiction

DD's brain is still developing and it is the parent's job to restrict and slowly relax restrictions to what might be considered adult content. This is why we as parents set up restrictions in media. That's parenting. One of the biggest values your daughter will get is less about the topic...

Re: Restriction on Christmas Sacrament Meeting

I think in some areas, over time some traditions keep getting bigger and bigger and adding more things that were once nice ideas but start to get out of balance, and so some areas leaders try to course correct a little and bring it back down to basics...which isn't a bad thing. It can remind people ...

Re: Crazy Mormonism

I also think you can find value in it if you see the mystical side of things. The BOM characters and stories are as real as the bible stories, to me. Job didn't exist either...that's fine...it's a story of principles. Some of the Book of Mormon can be seen that way too. It is better than doing nothi...

Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

Do you think the old saying is true: you get out of it what you put into it. If it is my kid singing...I'm the proud parents watching how funny they are trying to sing. If it's not my kids singing ... Well...I can try to get something out of it if I try to just appreciate the effort without caring a...

Re: Women and the Catholic church

Luke 11:52 Woe unto you, lawyers! for ye have taken away the key of knowledge: ye entered not in yourselves, and them that were entering in ye hindered. I guess lawyers have a job to do, and their rationale. Seems like Christ was warning them from defending the rules or the organization over the in...

Re: What IS the Priesthood and why is it needed?

If it would matter to God, it would seem you would be more blessed in some way. Something like: More peace and happiness? More prosperity? More protection? More rain to stop the drought? More visions and Revelations to lead the family? ... something? Anything? Or is it all just: More obedient to the...

Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

I think it goes to show that the length of meetings wasn't the problem.

It has been the content (or lack thereof).

But hey...less bad content is better than more bad content...so it is still an improvement in my book. Just hasn't addressed the root issue, IMO.

I just wonder if they've had feedback over time that "they don't need baptism" is more hurtful for families than just "go ahead and let them be baptized"...it's not like a baptism is going to hurt someone...better to be kind than be technical on the ordinances.

Re: Standing when a woman enters a room

I suppose a bigger problem is when Old-fashioned, well-intentioned, sincere, good-hearted, benevolently-sexist men create, maintain, and defend old-fashioned, well-intentioned, sincere, good-hearted, benevolently-sexist policies that masqurade as the gospel of Jesus Christ. That sounds like my favo...
