Re: Searching for a Quote by Joseph Smith

That's a great article. I particularly like: I have the most liberal sentiments and feelings of charity towards all sects, parties, and denominations; and the rights and liberties of conscience I hold most sacred and dear, and despise no man for differing with me in matters of opinion. and... When l...

Re: Where is everyone?

not going to church due to COVID has been a nice break. We went today for the first time since COVID. I find myself on this forum again. Going to church stirs up opinions and emotions and haven’t had the need to think them out or go to forums when not attending church. I was gonna say this too. Wit...

Re: Do you have a lot for which to repent?

Plus now that I've decided that swearing, drinking coffee and not paying tithing is normal and healthy, there's a lot less to "repent" for anyway.  I think this is the key, along with letting go of the associated guilt/fear. And again, let us not confuse or conflate repentance and ...

Re: A quote from RBG

And then came the 2008 GOP primary races. Mitt Romney was the front-runner. Out came Evangelical bigots by the score I was thinking about Mitt Romney as well. There were lots of comments like "The US isn't ready for a Mormon President" ...which is hard to understand why people think that way. I've ...

Re: My Recent Experiences with Prayer

I believe prayer can be helpful for a person to clarify what they think and what they believe, and that can be important. I find value in getting in touch with intuition, and trusting yourself. It can lead to moving forward with actions with more confidence, and sometimes that confidence can create ...

Re: Church statement and Trump's politics

It's interesting to me to go back and read the quotes from the Church and the things Trump was saying back in 2015.

Back then, I thought for sure Trump was not the right person to be President. And yet..here we are in 2020, the next election, and similar questions exist.

Searching for a Quote by Joseph Smith

Does anyone remember a quote by Joseph Smith that was making the point that the prophet would rather have a neighbor who was presbyterian (or some other religion) and strong in their faith and service to others than to have a Mormon neighbor who didn't live their faith? I think the point was it was ...

Re: Plandemic, conspiracies, and faith

I guess politicians and others felt like they needed be seen doing something so they don't get blamed too much for "killing grandma" regardless of how effective or not these actions really were in hindsight. Who knows their intentions? Do they act so they can be "seen" doing something, or do they a...

Re: More temple ordinance changes

It would require the first step of just acknowledging "SOME" characters in the Bible were not historical, but stuff of legends and lore from oral histories. Once they got that across and accepted, they would have a better chance of teaching more of the bible in terms of allegory and less about histo...
