Re: When a GA Listens: or, Presiding in the Home

I found her exchange with the GA to be both encouraging (she has the patience of a saint!) and disheartening. How on earth can he require this much work to still end at an unsatisfactory conclusion? He still doesn't get it. And she has to go out to meet him in his wrong position so many times. It re...

Re: What does it mean to council?

I'm curious what topics you guys thing would be good topics for council meetings. Here are the ones we've done: 1 - gathering input on topics people wanted for upcoming lessons. This one was a disaster. 2 - about the wide-scale changes (including youth interviews with parent in or adjacent, Elders Q...

Re: Coping With Previous Sexual History of a Spouse

But he also lied to me when we were engage and had the "hard but necessary"chat, and hide the true. I think it's important to caveat this a bit. Having been down the repentance road, I was told (and I have friends who were told) on more than one occasion by various church leaders that it was not so...

Re: What does it mean to council?

We've had the council every first Sunday that we've had (not Gen Conf month or our Stake Conf month). No resistance in our ward.

Community, in all its flawed glory. I know that people there will rally behind me if I need it, and that they care about my kids.

Re: When a GA Listens: or, Presiding in the Home

Preside has got to go. It's truly garbage and meaningless in the context of a family. It's needlessly hurtful, like we just have to make sure we poke women in the eye in case they start thinking they aren't second class citizens. There is literally NO upside to using this word and only significant d...

Re: Cornered by family. Feeling very weird. Please help.

Honestly I don’t want to choose any side and feel like this is a super personal thing. That's what you should say, IMO. Exactly that. You can be diplomatic and say to the TBMs that the others have concerns that are valid, and you empathize, but one thing I hate is a declaration. I don't like bearin...

Re: City Creek - Mesa

I wouldn't call the area around the Mesa temple merely an "out-of-the-way, quiet, pleasant, though maybe a bit out-of-date area." Maybe a decade ago my sister was chased by a homeless guy wielding a knife when she parked nearby to go to the temple. It's, IMO, a pretty sketchy area, very run-down for...

Re: Is it worth it raising daughters in the church?

dande48: My gut feeling is that the mantra "The one who writes the checks makes the rules", while applying very well to business and politics, isn't very healthy for a marriage. Even when both spouses are working, one will always make more than the other. A spouse shouldn't feel inferior because the...

Re: Is it worth it raising daughters in the church?

This isn't really a great mantra I have, but it's one I have anyway: "The one who writes the checks makes the decisions." First of all, it's kind of a might makes right way to look at things, but it does keep my perspective a bit in some important ways. When Benson gave his infamous talk to the "Mot...
