Re: Single Women: You have Priesthood Authority in Your Home

I called this one eons ago. It's the Dorothy Defense for female ordination. At the end of Wizard of Oz, Glenda tells her to just click her heels together three times while saying "There's no place like home," telling her "But Dorothy! You've had the power all along!" It's probably also a form of gas...

Re: SL Tribune: Church not handling sexual assault well for missionaries

Perhaps the bigger failing was how this was handled after the fact. As a church (as the organization, the individual members, and the culture) we have much baggage with sexual assualt. Agreed about the baggage associated with sexual assault. Here are a few failings I saw in the story she shared: 1)...

Re: SL Tribune: Church not handling sexual assault well for missionaries

I have a lot of opinions on this. First of all, let me just say that when I was a missionary, I was as guilty as anyone for being cavalier about my safety or thinking I would be protected. I think part of that is just being young, feeling invincible. Young people often feel they are safer than they ...

Can Women Matter?

What a great post by Kristine: https://bycommonconsent.com/2018/08/28/can-women-matter/ My comment: Very insightful and helpful post. I’ve said before that Mormon men are individually and on the whole less sexist than most of their non-LDS counterparts I’ve met–in terms of things like listening to w...

Church This Week

So church yesterday was a mixed bag. Sac Mtg had three talks all on the Proclamation. The worst of these was the High Council speaker who erroneously claimed that the Word of Wisdom was advice that nobody else at the time was doing (hello, Seventh Day Adventists and Kellogg!) and that it took medica...

Re: YW and free babysitting

I think there can also be this entitlement mind set when it comes to certain things: "I have followed the church's counsel to attend the temple/have too many kids too young/forego a dual income so "the church" owes me this kind of free support to make it all work." That's not far removed from "I'm r...

Re: Nelson's Version of PoX as Revelation in Seminary Manual

The policy doesn't just stink because of homophobia, it also stinks because it potentially affects numerous heterosexuals - whether children or spouses. From the TR interview: "Are you honest in your dealings with your fellow men?" Unless you are gay in which case we hope you just lie to everyone a...

Nelson's Version of PoX as Revelation in Seminary Manual

https://wheatandtares.org/2018/08/16/for-seminary-students-exclusion-policy-is-model-of-modern-revelation/ Yikes! Nelson doubling down on his implausible story about the PoX being revelation that has already been taken out of print once before, but is now incorporated into this year's seminary curri...
