Re: Hamula revisited

[Admin Note]: This looks like a good time to close this post. Speculation is about the only thing left, and we won't go there more than we already have. The admins and moderators will talk about this and make a consensus decision as quickly as possible.

Re: Proselytizing without Eternal Family mention

The nearly universal scope of the Atonement / grace. Seriously, I like being able to say that our pure version of God is more graciously powerful than just about any other Christian view. Eternal progression and theosis sets us apart, if we embrace it. It also is one of the central themes of the Bib...

Re: Hamula revisited

We just see it differently, Sam. I believe he still believes, so I think they actually did do him a favor by taking apostasy off the table. As I said, people who are going to speculate will speculate no matter what. Everything that is being thrown around would be thrown around no matter what. Withou...

Re: Gospel Principles class?

I tend to like Gospel Essentials, since it is easier to have a conversation about general principles and Gospel basics. My wife and I have attended that class off and on for years.

In the end, however, it does boil down to how the teacher handles it.

Re: Hamula revisited

If they had left out the "not apostasy" clause, I doubt most of this speculation would happen. Fwiw, I am 100% convinced it would have happened no matter what (that literally anything being said now would have been said no matter what). I've read enough in the ex-Mormon and anti-Mormon world over t...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

Benson was radically different as the President than he was as an apostile. I will cross that bridge when we get to it, but I hope, if Elder Bednar becomes the President, it will be after years of Uchtdorf & Eyring leadership in the FP. I actually am interested in Oaks, simply because I could see hi...

Re: James Hamula, First Quorum of the Seventy, Excommunicated

Sam B. wrote: I didn't know if there had been any further developments in the Hamula case, so I decided to look online recently... what I saw was speculation, speculation, speculation... I think this is the trouble. The church was so vague about what his excommunication was for that the public has ...

[Admin Note}: Rather than open another thread about this topic, I am going to paste Sam's comment into a comment on the original thread and bump it up for anyone who wants to discuss it.

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

Major changes have occurred when top leaders saw the need to change and prayed sincerely about it. They thought they knew change was necessary, and they got revelation confirming their views. It helped when the leader(s) had a "change is okay" mentality. Right now, we have a bit of a convergence win...

Maintaining balance is important, and not letting 10% overwhelm 90% is a little more than important. See you whenever you are ready to continue here - or never again, if you find a healthy balance that works for you and you no longer need us. In an ideal world, this forum wouldn't exist - and we are...
