Re: Talk on Repentance

I am going to take the easy way out and provide a comprehensive link to the 51 posts on my personal blog that are tagged as dealing with repentance: http://thingsofmysoul.blogspot.com/search/label/Repentance If I had to suggest only one longer one, it would be this one: "A Fresh View of Repentance" ...

Re: The Lord's Name

When dealing with words, I always like to start with actual meanings. In that light: "Vain" means "excessively proud of or concerned about one's own appearance, qualities, achievements, etc.; conceited: proceeding from or showing pride in or concern about one's appearance, qualities, etc.; ineffectu...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

Do you think the LDS Church is effective in cultivating good, strong leadership skills? Yes and no - just like pretty much any organization in which I have been involved throughout my life. Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

I don't think it is fair to say only a few do it right. In my 50+ years in the Church, I have seen more do it right (or, at least, do it well) than do it badly. I also have seen FAR more do it sincerely and at personal sacrifice than do it insincerely or for personal gain. I agree that we get lots o...

Re: Never sure when to give kudos and when not to!

To follow what Sheldon said, I love the simple statement: Perfect is the enemy of good. A very recent example: Affirmation (the primary LGBTQ advocacy organization in Utah) asked the LDS Church for $25,000 to implement suicide prevention training on a broad scale. The Church donated the money reques...

Re: The Millenium

The bottom line is that we have taken a whole bunch of scriptures out of context and tried to weld everything together into a giant narrative about the Millennium. No wonder there are huge problems with the narrative.
This. Exactly this.
