Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

Let's make sure we focus on helping Shawn and responding to his post. I didn't mean to detract from Shawn or Jospeh. I apologize for doing so.

Re: Ex-Bishop Up for Disciplinary Council Regarding Minor Interview Outspeak

That alone shows grandstanding. It saddens me, since I see it as a radical departure from how he started. At this point, it reeks to me of "to be seen of men".

It truly does sadden me.

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

Dande48 said what I would have said about the whole "prophets" and Jesus issue. I simply will summarize by saying that looking st him without the lens of believing faith is a radically different view than with those particular glasses. I have no intellectual clue if the historical Jesus of Nazareth ...

Re: YSA Fireside

I have six kids, 16-30. Three of them are classic, heterodox believers on their own terms; one is completely inactive but totally chill and not opposed in any way; one is traditionally believing with elements of personal disagreement; one has unique beliefs and a schedule that creates a Sunday atten...

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

I'm not sure comparing JS to Jesus is a step up for him or a step down for the Savior, but I think it's a step too far. Why? Seriously, why? I chose my words VERY carefully. I was crystal clear in my comparison. It wasn't Joseph to Jesus. It was a statement about "all famous prophets". It was quali...

Re: History of the Temple Recommend

Thanks, dande48. I might disagree with the marriage first, temple sealing wait policy, but that timeline and context makes sense logically. I wish it hadn't been the decision, and I hope it changes again, but I understand the reasoning, given the outline above.

Re: Joseph Smith makes me angry

Fwiw, I have come to accept him as a very human, very complicated person - as a quite typical "visionary" and charismatic man. There are things about him I find distasteful, but there are other things about him I find incredibly admirable. I think he truly was a serious saint - and a serious sinner....

Re: YSA Fireside

Marlin Jensen did incredible work as the Church Historian to make all of the recent stuff possible. There is a lot to do, and cramming too much down the throats of faithful people who can't digest it would be cruel. This broadcast was FAR from perfect, as is "Saints", but sometimes perfect is the en...

Yep, doctrine changes over time - often dramatically.

I am glad I live now.
