Re: WOW Seminary Manual

Just for clarification, the manual doesn't designate any particular revelation when it states the date of the revelation in question. It simply gives the date. It links to lots of other stuff but not to a particular statement about the revelation it cites. The issue is that there is another statemen...

Re: WOW Seminary Manual

Absolutely, mom3. Some of the most recent changes were driven largely by other countries, like the elimination of the sealing wait period. There was no waiting in some countries, so Americans started saying, "They don't have to wait, so why do we?" Scouting is another good example. Americans forget ...

Re: WOW Seminary Manual

I think the general issue is understood by many members. It certainly has been taught in Seminary for decades. I heard it taught 35-40 years go when I took the D&C in Seminary - and I have heard it mentioned lots of times in church throughout my life. Most members don't know or care about exactly wh...

Re: The Nature of Men in the LDS Church

This is the central issue I have with discussions that try to identify or define "real men", which is the underlying, unexpressed vibe of lots of conversations about being a man. What is a real man like? A real man is like whoever any particular man is. A man who fits a hyper-masculine stereotype is...

Re: Are all religions the same?

All people are the same - and all people are different. People are more similar than different - but some differences are significant and often appear to outweigh the similarities.

Churches are no different.

Re: Inching Closer to Inclusion

This and the meeting with the leader of New Zealand (an ex-Mormon who left over the Church's policies regarding LGBTQ+ people) are important, even if it seems only symbolic right now.

I believe it is more than that.

Re: Has the church really changed

Doctrine and policy have changed, in some cases radically, even recently. This is not the Church of my childhood and early adulthood in significant ways, and I am grateful for that.

That is important to recognize.

Re: The Nature of Men in the LDS Church

There are "manly men" who are aloof, cold, stern, aggressive, hardline, etc. and "wimpy men" who have no spine, are lazy, get pushed around easily, have no ambition or drive, etc. There also are men who are at every point between those two extremes. The LDS Church teaches neither of the extremes. Th...

Re: Has the church really changed

The changes in sex/gender language in the temple is huge. Going to two hours for Sunday meetings is big. The removal of the sealing wait period is almost immeasurable. There are a lot of little changes. Aggregated, they can be seen as big or small, depending on perspective. In the end, I think this ...
