Re: CTR is the wrong motto for Primary

I think it's a fine motto... For older ages. The issue is that at the age when it would be most helpful, the motto is too simple to be of use. I think it has the tendency of forming us vs them mentalities when taught at such a young age. You see a guy smoking? He's not choosing the right. You see so...

CTR is the wrong motto for Primary

In the age when children are sponges, we teach them to stick to blind obedience rather than loving everyone.

This has serious consequences.

Discuss.

God has Favorites?

So an idea that has been circulating in my ward has been that God has favorites. It's extracted from Nephi mentioning that he was highly favored of the Lord in 1 Ne 1:1. This came from a recent fireside given by Susan Easton Black. She explained that the way to see His merciful and loving qualities ...

Re: My Nephew Met a GA

I've personally shaken hands with Elder Anderson on my mission. He shattered the robotic missionary platform. The orthodox missionaries kept on being robots. They are just as capable of misinterpreting apostles as anyone else. Seems like many of the junior apostles are not happy with the judgmental ...

Re: An alternate model for funding the church

You could even take "increase" to mean the money you made this year that is more than you made last year. "Interest" could be taken to mean paying only on what you make from investments. The scriptures are vague. If the church can move the goalposts, so can we. OTOH, they have relaxed one aspect of ...

Re: Doubting my Patriarchal Blessing

I think the declaration of lineage is mostly symbolic at this point and is probably meaningless if taken literally. It's just the church fulfilling the Gathering of Israel in a literal sense.

I'm betting we're probably all Ephraim. It's the tribe of the white people. :P

Doubting my Patriarchal Blessing

This has been weighing on me for a few weeks now. I don't know where to begin. I'm not going to share much of it in detail because I do not consider my current state of faith final and respect its potential sacredness. It's generic. It follows the same basic structure I would expect any TBM life to ...

Re: Busy in the Beehive

If I'm going to be completely honest, the church has not done a lot for my social life. It's true my best friend is also a member, but I don't think it's the activities in and of themselves that built that friendship. We lived on adjacent streets. It wasn't the activities so much that enabled us to ...

Re: My Temple Wedding Adventure

I'm so happy for you that you can find joy in that and your daughter supports it. I wish the best to her in her new married life. I also thought the ring exchanging ceremony was of GREAT interest to teenage, temple-underage youth in the audience. They watched intently and it was very meaningful for ...
