Putting down my pitchfork... er... taking a hiatus.

I think I need to take a month or so off from visiting this forum so that I can focus on the positive aspects of the church. I shouldn't let the 10% I don't like (this isn't a tithing joke, I promise) ruin the 50% I do like and the 40% I don't mind. My shelf is still very much broken and I don't exp...

Re: Here we go again.

Wow. #2 Is especially depressing considering that bringing in a nonmember keyboardist is an obvious missionary opportunity.

Sounds like your ward is far too beholden to tradition.

Re: Spiritual Role of Emotions

I'm really not sure where I stand on this. It's somewhat problematic that we associate something so important (spiritual confirmations) with something as inconsistent as emotions. True, logic and reason can only get us so far, and science isn't particularly apt at addressing deep questions of the so...

Re: Denver area anybody?

Well that would be me.

Lunch would work. There's a YSA party Saturday evening. I know of this awesome hot dog place downtown... And there are a lot of restaurants near where I live.

Re: "Keeping the Sabbath Day Holy" is a Very Nebulous Term

I love that idea. I even thing more people are finding that preferable on Thanksgiving day...go out to eat and have no dishes and not all the prep work before hand...it leaves more family time. Funny. I actually did that with the family I lived with on my mission. We even went out to a Chinese buff...

Re: Buzzwords

This seems like the kind of stuff that led to me making the Google Doc, later wiki, with my friends. I guess I've come full circle. :P

Re: Social Conunddrum

Her behavior sounds a lot like Asperger's Syndrome (especially in having no problem talking at people about a select range of subjects). I have quite a few friends with it and while it does make it difficult for many of them to be social, they manage just fine. There were actually a bunch on this ot...

Re: Finding my way

If I can't find recovery then my marriage will soon be over. Is that something you believe, or is that something you have been led to think you believe because of the culture surrounding the issue? Is it because your wife is freaking out about it (maybe she is, maybe she isn't. I don't know your si...

Re: A House Full of Females

Also, just because I haven't been a big enough pain already, monogamy and marriage tends to benefit men more - my guess is because of how masculinity is traditionally expected of men. Married men live longer and have better relationships than single men, overall. Married women often lose more sleep...

Re: Finding my way

Losing a temple recommend in that situation really sucks. Unless there's more issues underneath you don't feel comfortable sharing on a public forum, most bishops (at least of those I had) would not revoke a TR for porn/masturbation problems and shaken faith. Then again, I dunno about the FC part of...
