Re: Feeling like an imposter, losing hope in the middle way

Fwiw, I don't like the term "THE middle way", since it still implies one true way. I walk my own way, which, for me, is within the broader parameters of the LDS Church. It isn't a middle way; it is my way. To be fair, I don't mean it like that. I definitely recognize that it's a different path for ...

Re: Today's Observations

Considering that church is an echo chamber at times, I think they really only mean the latter. Mormons aren't challenged enough in their own beliefs. Or rather, critical thinking just isn't really encouraged. If my testimony depends on immersing myself in the Mormon echo chamber and accepting what l...

Re: Selfishness vs. Self-Care/Self-Preservation

I'm sure you've heard of the analogy with airplanes where the flight attendants tell you that in the event of loss of cabin pressure, you should put the oxygen mask on yourself first before helping others. I don't know if you'll relate to this, but I play Overwatch and I often play as Mercy, one of ...

Today's Observations

Today, I noticed a sort of pattern among the members in my ward that bothered me. Two patterns actually. Pattern 1: fixing people Today, this was stuff like "she just needs to get a witness of the gospel" for an investigator who believes in this interestingly nebulous Buddhist-inspired concept of Go...

Re: Feeling like an imposter, losing hope in the middle way

April Conference, or a day or two after is my decision day when I decide whether to stay, leave, choose something in between, or delay the decision. (I have deliberately delayed paying tithing until then, though that's going to be a fat check if I decide to keep paying tithing) I don't see leaving a...

Re: Asking to be released...

I don't think I can really handle this with the care it deserves in person, so I am probably going to have to fall back on less direct methods... Namely a text message. Or perhaps an email. I really hate to do this with such a shortage of ward missionaries, but I feel I'm not really able to give my ...

Re: Feeling like an imposter, losing hope in the middle way

And to pour salt on the wound, this had to be the week that we talked about the Proclamation in EQ. I wish I had excused myself and left early, but I didn't want to be rude or raise any red flags. On the other hand, Gospel Principles was a good discussion due to an investigator with great questions....

Feeling like an imposter, losing hope in the middle way

I feel as if I'm pretending at church. Endless sheepese, pretending to believe in things I just don't know... Yeah. All that. Every week, it seems there is less and less hope for being a middle way Mormon. I don't think I'm cut out for it. Some weeks, church is somewhat enjoyable. Others, I feel lik...

Re: Being safe at Church.

I remember for a while, there was a lot of theft going on during church at our building, so they'd have a couple men out on guard duty during meetings. They were unarmed, but you don't really need weapons to deter common theft. It shouldn't be hard to find armed members if the need arises. Most ward...

When you feel the need to apologize for the church

Today at work, while out for lunch, I found out that one of my coworkers is gay. I knew he was married, but he's not at all the gay stereotype, so I just kind of assumed his spouse was a woman. He definitely doesn't wear it on his sleeve, so it was a little bit surprising. But it didn't bother me. A...
