Re: Free agency vs. free agency

As Amy and Dande have stated - our ability to choose is not unencumbered. I myself am a strong proponent of "limited agency." I'm right there with you. I've attempted to have conversations about this topic with some orthodox friends and the idea doesn't get much traction. We tend to only extend thi...

Re: My Story (Glad to find this place)

Welcome! I have had an on again off again relationship with the church as far back as I can remember. You should fit right in here then:) The one thing about me is that doesn't include my relationship with Christ. I am very firm in the fact that I am a Christian. It's harder for me to say that I am ...

Hi. I was recently assigned to be your minister. I see that you are not active in the church. Is it because you think the church is as boring as I think it is? Let's chat about it. ;)
Love This :D

Re: Free agency vs. free agency

I interpret free agency as "your ability to choose without the control of someone/something else" As Amy and Dande have stated - our ability to choose is not unencumbered. I myself am a strong proponent of "limited agency." I find that our church tends to overemphasize agency because our doctrine/c...

Re: Home Teaching is Over, Long Live Home Teaching?

The part that gets me is that we are not counting visits -- it's whether needs are taken care of. What do you say at the door of an inactive family? Hi, I'm here just to connect -- can we visit a few minutes? You can't just say "Hi, I'm your minister what are your temporal or spiritual needs right ...

Re: Home Teaching is Over, Long Live Home Teaching?

Is that ministering? One of my "ministering" families has a daughter. My daughter and her daughter both love a Lego expansion called Lego elves. Although there is an age gap I invited this girl over to our house to play for an hour. I heard through my wife (who later talked to the mother) that the ...

Re: Do You Believe in the Literal Christ?

Is anybody really certain of anything ? I know I think, therefor I know I am .... I'm not certain about the rest of you all. I know I think (and I think incomplete and incorrect thoughts), therefore I know I am incomplete and incorrect in my faith narrative regularly. I am certain that th...

Re: Are we a church of volunteers, assignments or covenants?

I have compassion on this good bishop. Honor, duty, and commitment are what made his world view meaningful. Let's just say that I did not find his logic as motivating as he did. ;) I hear ya. My husband mentions regularly that he is striving to "become" a better man so that he can live with me in t...

Re: Positive Ways Leaders Can Motivate the Flock

I realized that this is going off tangent to your current topic, but it fits in... Pay gentle attention to the "Special Needs" Families in the branch/organization . People with children who have developmental difficulties (profoundly obvious or not) once identified will need people who can step in a...

Re: Are we a church of volunteers, assignments or covenants?

Agreed Road Runner.

The other semantic difficulty is that for a calling you get set a part for as part of standard protocol. For an assignment, generally not - though I have heard of people requesting a priesthood blessing prior to starting a specific assignment.
