Re: Creationism vs Evolutionism in Faith Transition... Or Why Do I Feel Like I Lost the Arguement?

I think that is great and I am for presenting to children similarly...

I just got burned because I did not fulfill my husband's unstated more traditional belief soundbite version and tried to teach "incorrect doctrine" because of my faith transition.

Creationism vs Evolutionism in Faith Transition... Or Why Do I Feel Like I Lost the Arguement?

My daughter asked about the creation of plants and animals this morning. I got about 2 sentences in regarding what some scientists thought (life started in the ocean before it spread to land), and what people before scientists thought (that God created everything) before I was cut off so that my dau...

Re: Covenant Keeping

I have been thinking a lot about Abraham since I last posted. I think we love Abraham so much because it is a rags-to-riches story combined with conversations with God. It sets the stage for at least 2 formalized, specific religions on a literal level (Judaism and Islam), with specific meaning for C...

Re: Covenant Keeping

Tongue in cheek follow up question? What if you no longer wanted to be a part of the Covenant of Abraham because you have enough children and no longer believed your tribe is special enough to merit preferential treatment? Or you had something against circumcision? Does that mean you can just sit in...

Covenant Keeping

When we realize that we are children of the covenant, we know who we are and what God expects of us.His law is written in our hearts. President Russell M. Nelson October 2011 "Covenants" https://www.lds.org/general-conference/2011/10/covenants?lang=eng What do these 2 sentences mean to you personal...

Re: As man is God once was

You mean worship love? Or worship life? That sounds reasonable. But most people think Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are the embodiment of love and life. As for an ultimate source, I don't think there is one. It all cycles forever. Hmmmmm, this is very difficult idea for me to wrap my head around...

Re: Philosophy of Non-Responders 101

I see the "assignment" mentality is of value when there are emergencies, and the leadership needs to contact someone to help the person. Even if that person doesn't have the skills to fix the problem (like the financially struggling family who has a simple plumbing problem they can't fix themselves...

Re: Feeling Traumatized at Church?

POTENTIAL PRIMARY RANT WARNING: Church for me this week was my husband vacating the chapel to deal with health issues while I dealt with our 2 daughters (8 years old functioning around 5-6 years old and almost 2 years old respectively) in the chapel. Normally, in this situation, if my husband goes o...

Re: Feeling Traumatized at Church?

Yes, I have felt those feelings before. I attribute them to experiencing a moment of cognitive dissonance where you feel that what you believe/know no longer matches what everyone else around you believes/knows AND that if they could read your mind, you would be ousted from the tribe (spear points s...

Re: Philosophy of Non-Responders 101

For me, I would do what I could to get to know a little about them - see what their face book says, google what their name says, or ask any family members in the branch who know them a little about them. All information is used to decide if I have enough in common to be friends with them on their ow...
