Re: The whens, wheres, and whys of speaking up at church

In that situation, I would have probably said something like this after the yelling started... "I am thankful that we have modern technology which makes some of these conflicts of time and resources easier to resolve by email or by Skype. I am also thankful for the gift of the Holy Ghost that helps ...

Re: The whens, wheres, and whys of speaking up at church

Curt Sunshine often remarks he participates in group activities with the sole focus of serving others/making the experience better for others - and that he has more meaningful experiences because of this focus. It's also sobering when you begin to realize that the best way to serve others may be to...

Re: WWJD is Not the Real Question

I heard the following quote a long time ago, and I just remembered it while reading one of the other threads. I have tried to receate it exactly as I first heard it, since every single word appears to have been chosen with care. I am interested in what each of you thinks: The question is not, "What...

Re: The whens, wheres, and whys of speaking up at church

Is church really a community of believers with a shared goal of finding refuge in shared belief, where the goal of the three hour block is to reaffirm said beliefs and to seek validation from the community? With each passing Sunday I feel like the only option available to me is to seek greater comf...

Re: How do you measure success in "ministering"

I like Nibbler's answer :D I think it becomes a flow chart actually (I would draw it if I could in this program)... Were you able to make contact with the person/people that you minister to? Yes --> Were their lives improved because of you? Yes = Success, Follow-Up Question = Is there opportunity/ne...

Re: Revelation

Perhaps another question for Spacious Maze to answer (or others): Does revelation depend on worthiness or righteousness or being holy? Here are my non-traditional thoughts so far from my faith transition viewpoint: NOTE: At this point I feel fairly blinded in receiving personal revelation and am lo...

Re: Orson Scott Card: Churches grow not because of doctrine

At another church where we participate the Pastor said that they strive to create an environment where people would want to be even if they did not initially buy into all the doctrinal stances. This struck me as the antithesis of the LDS approach where we expect people to endure the environment and...

Re: Orson Scott Card: Churches grow not because of doctrine

<Quasi-Thread Jacking Going On> We are studying about the City of Enoch and this seemed to be an appropriate thread to use a starting point. "Instead, Stark shows us the things that early Christians did to make the church more welcoming to strangers. We can't give people the witness of the Holy Ghos...

Re: As man is God once was

Very late to the party....and this spin may not be the most helpful. WARNING: POTENTIAL RANT. YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED. But I want to put that out there because it is a different perspective. This is why it hurts sometimes for us sisters... like an unexpected kick in the solar plexis from a toddler in y...

Re: How do you view the Restoration?

Tough/interesting question. First I'd have to figure out what was lost in order to determine what was restored and for me that's also a difficult question to answer. I know this goes against the church narrative but I'd venture to say that the main thing that was lost wasn't truth, ordinances, or o...
