Re: Reaching Out Update

I love everything you have shared from your grandpa and I appreciate his perspectives. I’d love to meet him or have someone like that in my life!

Re: President Monson Passes

I do think Monson was a kind and gentle soul who truly loved others and believed in giving meaningful service. Unfortunately, I wonder if at least part of his legacy will be his stance on LGBT policy, given that both the Prop 8 campaign and also the November 2015 policy were under his leadership. I ...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

No doubt the rapidity (or lack thereof) of change is difficult to deal with. I find the same to be true for the nation as well. Not growing up in the civil rights or equal rights ammendment eras, I can only imagine the frustration with the slow speed of change those in those eras had to deal with. Y...

Re: Spiritual Role of Emotions

I have a good friend who takes anti-depressants intermittently and he has told me this. When he's on his meds his emotions are so blunted that he doesn't often feel what he interprets as the spirit. It's definitely a real and palpable thing for him. As for my own thoughts on the matter, I have stopp...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

I tend to think some changes are inevitable. If history has taught us anything, it's that the church certainly does change, especially when social pressure mounts enough that not changing would do more harm than changing. That's when revelations come. Polygamy and the priesthood ban are clear exampl...

Heartfelt thanks and (maybe) parting thoughts

I wanted to write this brief post to say thank you to everyone who has helped and supported me during my faith transition. You were there for me when I first started doubting, my world was spinning and I needed a landing place to process my thoughts in a safe place. You were there for me when I was ...

Re: Does more knowledge cause greater pain?

Excellent question and for me, absolutely it does! As I have transitioned I've thought about if I would rather go back to when I had a "pure" testimony with my simple black and white view of the world. While I was blissfully ignorant and happy in that perspective, I would never want to go back despi...

Re: Luther's 95 Thesis Moment In Dispute

Speaking of the 95 theses, I thought this post was interesting. Many great ideas even if you don't agree with all. What would you add? What would you take away?

Re: Questions to ensure youth are ready to serve a mission

This is a little off base from the topic of the OP, but this thread has veered into a discussion of missionary life in general and how things could possibly improve. One thought I've had reading through these posts is about knocking door-to-door. At least in the US, I think that should be banned. We...

Re: Was the priesthood ban revelation?

This is an interesting discussion. I think the consensus is that the ban was definitely not revelation. So here is a bigger question: what is revelation? Is it God revealing to man His will? Or is it man having an "epiphany" that he thinks is God's will? Does the first type of revelation happen with...
