Re: Won't let me baptize my son... I might be done

Now that this has passed, and you look back and reflect on it....what do you mostly think? Were the leaders more reasonable than you thought they would be, or was this just a huge headache that pushes you further out? It's a good question, Heber, and I'm torn. I think the leaders were operating fro...

Re: Won't let me baptize my son... I might be done

So, you have an adventure in front of you as you figure out your own way...glad you made it past this particular hurdle. I assume you didn't have to mention getting an area authority involved? What changed his mind? I'm not sure what changed his mind other than me going in and trying to be honest w...

Re: Tom Christofferson's Story - Thoughts?

I agree, Roy. As much as our current issues concern me, I still would not choose the earlier time. Thanks for that. I also prefer stability to the possibility of being asked to offer my wife or daughter to the prophet or other challenges early members faced. However, at the same time i would like t...

Re: Won't let me baptize my son... I might be done

DT - I'm glad your SP allowed you to baptize/confirm your son. It's unfortunate the hoops that have to be jumped through to participate sometimes. Back in the beginning of the year, after multiple conversations with my Bishop, he wouldn't let me bless our new son. He did give me multiple opportunit...

Re: Won't let me baptize my son... I might be done

Good news! Glad he recanted. Although I would rather you were able to also give the gift of the holy ghost. But sharing the ordinances is something that doesn't create shame, and can be concluded as inclusive of family members and patriarchs. I am glad you are getting through this -- focus now shou...

Re: "The Lord maketh no such thing known unto us"

Like Heber and some others, I don't think the BoM is a literal history. But putting that aside and considering the question of how Laman and Lemuel could see an angel and then go right on rebelling and murmuring, may I offer perhaps an additional insight? Considering that according to the text, Neph...

Re: Won't let me baptize my son... I might be done

Thanks to all the well wishes, thoughts, and prayers! My SP said I can go ahead with baptizing and confirming my son, although I may have his grandpa do the confirmation with me still standing in the circle. I am very grateful for all your support!

Re: The Gospel =/= The Church

Does anyone else like Bill Reel's tool belt analogy? I think it fits my current perspective pretty well.

Re: "The Lord maketh no such thing known unto us"

Also I am not particularly a wizard or -mancer type... In playing role-playing games such as D&D, I usually play a fighter/ranger (sometimes a girl has gotta bash/shoot something...), sorceress (why pretend to ponder over tons of books when you can do stuff because of who you innately are), or orac...
