Re: "It's Because You're Black" - June 2018 Ensign

I thought of an analogy while reading this thread. When an old building in a modern city becomes unfit or unsafe, we knock it down to build a new one in its place. It's relatively easy to haul away the debris containing the old materials and bring in new materials to start from scratch. A year later...

Re: Poll: Mormon identity and its effect on emotional health

I'm running this poll at NOM for comparison. (Feel free to vote both places if you have accounts.) I'm really curious about what I'll find. The poll is inspired by a few things: Starting to study secular Buddhism Wondering why disaffected members resign, and why they often report such a difference i...

Poll: Mormon identity and its effect on emotional health

I'm not asking about the actual effects of actually being an active Mormon or not. For example, satisfaction or stress from having a calling if you are an active Mormon isn't the kind of joy or sorrow I'm after. I'm not asking about the actual effects of thinking of yourself as a Mormon or not. For ...

Re: Nelson in Africa

So what happens if Church members faithfully pay tithing and then can't afford to pay for their mortgage/rent or even food for their families in the worst cases? They'll probably give them support through fast offerings, which will both increase their loyalty to the Church and feel indebted to it. ...

Re: Can't remember why I'm hurt but I still am!

It's heightened adrenaline that causes goosebumps and hair standing on end. Based on this and some of your other language, I think you're dealing with not just hurt, but a state of fight or flight brought on by a conditioned fear response. Of course, this makes emotional pain easier to recall... If ...

Re: April 2018 Sunday Afternoon Session (HT/VT End)

Finally, Cook addressed the elephant in the room with cases of rape! I wish he had been more direct and called a spade a spade, but it's something. I agree. I'm still scratching my head at "nonconsensual immorality." What the heck is that? If the victim didn't consent it's not immorality on her or ...

The most important day in our lives is when we truly learn to behold the man.
For me, he had to disappear before I could really see him. He looks so different, too.

Re: Sunday morning April 2018

Both DHO's and RMN's talks got me wondering something. What's the scriptural support for the idea that increasing your obedience in small things results in better revelation, more Spirit, etc.? I'm drawing a blank.

Re: Combining Elders and High Priests

This is a very good change. When I was HPGL, I noticed that almost all of the stellar home teachers were HPs. We hit 70% every month with no begging from me - the most I ever did was thank them. I never had to worry that someone wasn't being taken care of. The HPs showed me time and again that they ...
