Re: Lansing Michigan Apostle Visit

What if a Beehive got up and gave a Beehivic blessing mentioning parents, people that struggle spiritually, people seeking an education, and people that deal with mental illness? I know this is just a rhetorical device, but I really, really, really want to see this. I laughed so hard, especially at...

Re: Symbolism in the temple vs. baptism

While I do love the symbolism of being buried and resurrected to new life etc., I can also see how sprinkling baptism have related symbolism. So I'm having a hard time reconciling why it's OK to perform and "preach" that sort of symbolism in the temple (at least that temple ordinance) and not bapti...

Re: The Funnest Experience at another church -- new story!

I don't think it's the beat, it's the instruments. The list of approved instruments for SM appears to be very short. Pianos, organs, violins, flutes, cellos, harps. That's about it. Well, so much for my tuba-accordion-and-bagpipe rendition of Come Thou Fount of Every Blessing. What, no harmonica or...

And Abner Doubleday never invented baseball and William Webb Ellis never invented rugby.
Pfft. Revisionist history! Next you'll tell me that Sir Isaac Newton never invented gravity.

Re: Luther's 95 Thesis Moment In Dispute

I love all of those theses. But I don't think #62 (open sealings) would ever fly. To add: Have missionaries do useful service like build schools and work at homeless shelters *instead of* proselyting. I've read that the SDAs do this and that it's very good at bringing in converts. Cease the hysteric...

Re: This article broke my shelf

Reuben, thank you for kind words. I'm sorry for the abuse that you suffered when you were growing up. As I told Nibbler, I hope that my use of the word doesn't offend you. I obviously haven't feared for my safety in the church as you had to do daily. When I talk about spiritual abuse I'm not even r...

Re: This article broke my shelf

Kate, I'm so sorry to read this. I hope you can find peace and a way to ease this burden. You don't deserve it. I wish I could just beam love and respect right through the Internet to you. I was abused by my peers from grade 4 to grade 10, in three different schools, for the horrible crime of being ...

If this thread becomes a discussion of our views of polygamy, it will do downhill fast. Let's stay away from that and focus solely on the interview.
Good catch. Thanks.

Re: Actual Polygamist's perspective on polygamy

John Dehlin interviewed her for Mormon Stories back when it was new: http://www.mormonstories.org/mormon-stories-042-and-043-understanding-mormon-fundamentalist-polygamy-an-interview-with-anne-b-wilde/ I've always been fascinated by people who still practice polygamy. When I was young, I was disgust...

Re: What kind of god do you want to affiliate with?

I approach this question with a constraint. What I want God to be has to be consistent with the evidence I have. I don't want untruth. Loving parent? Not in any sense that I'm familiar with. I could only make this idea work as a believer when I ignored the horrible lives that so many people lead. Wh...
