Re: To Be Seen for the Honors of Men? Lost reward?

I believe some of the wisest, happiest men, are those with the fewest early possessions. He sounds like good company. Here's the gospel according to Dande48: If you do good in hopes of a reward (in this life or the world to come), your desires are still self-interested. The purest good a man can do,...

Re: Near-death Bishop's Counsel

My daughter was dying in ICU and the stake patriarch's wife told me point-blank that she hadn't been healed because she received a blessing from her dad and he must not have been worthy enough or spiritually strong enough to warrant healing from God. She sent her husband down to "do the job right"....

Re: Daily Scripture Study

Finally, just to say it, I don't believe ANY of the top church leadership stresses daily scripture study to keep members brainwashed. I am certain you didn't mean it to be literal, but we don't go for charges of cultish brainwashing here. Just saying. :D I'm not sure if that was an Admin warning fr...

Re: Daily Scripture Study

It's funny, last time I spoke with my bishop, he incouraged me to read from the Book of Mormon every day. Little does he know, this regular reading is what first brought on my "faith crisis". Literally, the more I read, the less I believed. But I think the principle behind it is a wonderful one, and...

Re: Abusing the Priesthood

Did BY win the lottery? New one on me. Not the literal "lottery", as we think of it today. But he did retain the autority to draw from Church tithing funds for his own expenses, which he did heavily, and interest free. He also landed himself the most lucrative position in the west. During the trial...

Re: BYU and Cheap Tuition

FWIW I don't think any starving Africans' tithing is actually used to fund BYU, temples, etc., unless you consider it an equal small percentage of each tithing dollar goes to each of the things tithing pays for. The US and Canada actually subsidize the rest of the world, particularly South America,...

Re: How can I enjoy staying?

TB, we've all been there. We all love and are grateful for the Church, which is why we try so hard to "Stay LDS", even when some of our core beliefs come crashing down. I agree with what's been said; there is no shame in asking to be released from your calling. You can choose what details you want t...

Re: Abusing the Priesthood

Give blessings for money? Catholic Church Use it to gain beautiful women or sex through it? Joseph Smith Use the powers to win the lottery? Brigham Young But using the "supernatural" powers of the priesthood for personal benifit, the Church generally declares that as impossible. What is very possib...
