Re: What kind of god do you want to affiliate with?

I don't think I support a God who -Would torture any of his children for all eternity. Doesn't matter what they did or how bad they were. -Would require any of his children to physically harm any of his other children -Would wipe his children's minds, and send them to a place with millions of contra...

Re: The Cry Heard Round the Room

*PPFFBBTT!!!* That's what I think about that. It reminded me of a testimony given many years ago, by this semi-newlywed woman with a couple of kids. She bore how she knew if she read scriptures with them, brought them to Church, and held family home evening, her children would never go astray. This ...

Re: Anniversary Posting: Progression: What's the Hurry, and Do I Really Want To Go to Heaven?

Dande48, Thanks for your comments. For some reason, the Book of Job pops into mind as I read them. Not because I compare my troubles to Job's; I have not lost so much. And to some extent, that which I have lost has been restored, but not the time to enjoy it. But to compare myself to people in your...

Re: Anniversary Posting: Progression: What's the Hurry, and Do I Really Want To Go to Heaven?

Hi Will, I've loved your comments, and appreciate you sharing. I really feel for you; it's been a tough life. There are a few New Testament stories that stood out to me, that I really believe in. In Jesus' parables he spoke of to men, who went to the temple to pray. The first went to the front , lif...

Re: For those who stay. Do you still follow all the teachings of the church?

I still keep all of the standards of the Church despite having a pretty strong belief (if I was TMB, I'd call it "knowledge) against an anthropomorphic god. A lot of the commandments are still from a 100% secular standpoint, and still worth keeping. Alcohol is literal poison. Porn messes you up sexu...

Re: New Zealands's new prime minister is ex-Mormon

Quite a few LDS, particularly among the Maori and other Polynesians. The LDS were the subject of a Maori prophecy... There is a HUGE disparity in New Zealand between the Maori and non-Maori residents of New Zealand. The Maori have a disproportionate amount of crime, higher unemployment, lower educa...

Re: New Perspective on Why the Boy Scouts of America is declining....

I have noticed it is MUCH easier to earn your Eagle Scout Award, than it has in the past. I think in the past two decades, the percent of scouts who have earned their Eagle has doubled. I had a brother in law who, during the Eagle Board of Review, was told (paraphrasing), "Normally, your project jus...

Re: Was the priesthood ban revelation?

Let's take the following example of "revelation": You lose your car keys, and appeal through prayer to the divine creator to find them. Then, suddenly it dawns on you where you last left them. There are two possibilities. First is, God heard and answered your prayer by adjusting the synapsis in your...

What is worth believing in

There is a video which was publish by Alain DeBotton's organization "The School of Life", called "Do We Have Free Will or Are We Predetermined?" . The answer Alain gives, is that the actual objective truth is practically irrelevant. On the one hand, believing in absolute determinism can lead to "def...

Re: Struggling

Welcome, Dkormond! Happy to have you with us. I think we share a lot of the same issues with the Church. Both science and Church history (or religious history in general) is dismissed by the Church (and most religions in general), because it's damaging to their cause. It's pretty obvious to me that ...
