Re: Free agency vs. free agency

I recently came across a a graph and explaination of Determinism vs Indeterminism , i.e. "Fate" and "Free Will". It was fascinating to me to see so many different possible views and explainations (the link provides a pretty thorough list). I think most of us, reading through the comments, don't beli...

Re: Random Thought - What Works For Us

That was the first show my wife and I watched together, back when we first met. :) I think it's a very good analogy. I hadn't made that connection before. Thanks for sharing, Amy.

Re: Do you participate in Symposia ......

It makes me want to say, "Your MOM participates in Symposia not in harmony with the teachings on the gospel!"
"We had real good discourse." ;)

Re: Hypothetical situation

Let's say there was a talk General Conference about how you are either all in, or all out, that middle way Mormonism is not the way to go, and even implies that sites like these are not good for you spiritually... Followup Question: How is any of this hypothetical? It's seemed pretty clear to me, o...

Re: Thoughts on Being a Dissenter by Jana Reiss

My favorite subject in college was Evolutionary Biology. In Evolution, we understand that mutations, which sometimes arise through random chance, are largely responsible for both the development and survival of a species. I think religion and civilization work much in the same way. You have to have ...

Re: Redesigning the Marriage Ceremony

I strongly believe it's not good enough just to have good ideas. What counts is remembering those good ideas. Humans are easily distracted and easily bored. Take Marriage Builders for example (BTW, thanks for sharing SD). I look a moment to look over their site, which I am sure is full of wonderful ...

Redesigning the Marriage Ceremony

I just received an email from an organization I follow, "The School of Life", which is largely an Atheist organization, but one with kind attitudes towards religion, who strive to help the more secular among us live and die well. Recently, they have redesigned the marriage ceremony, and released a Y...

Re: Free agency vs. free agency

The pitbulls are a very sad example, and I fully agree that the environment we are raised in has as much if not more of an effect on who we become, than the natures we were born with. I don't think it matters whether "Original Sin" or "Free Agency". I think, like with most religious principles, it m...

Re: Free agency vs. free agency

I will say that as a former Catholic I wholeheartedly disagree with the idea of original sin... For the record, I disagree with "Original Sin" as an objective truth. I don't literally believe in Adam and Eve, or a time when lions were herbivores. But I do also wholeheartedly disagree with the 2nd a...
