Re: The culture of marriage

My question: Is it bad to marry young? What is the downside if they find someone they are in love with and are willing to figure things out as they go along? By waiting longer...isn't someone just adding new variables to a situation, not really getting a more sure answer on who is going to be right...

Re: The culture of marriage

For the record, I have heard the term "wifing" and "wifing her up" primarily outside of BYU and LDS culture. It's a common term with Christians outside of our faith. I have also heard "Peeing in the same pool" mainly refer to dating those who attend your same class, or who are neighbors, or who are ...

Re: Fanny Alger, First Plural Wife?

My memory of this event probably comes from RSR. In it JS was insistent that he had never said that he was guilty of adultery or never used adultery to describe his relationship with Fanny. Once OC had acknowledged as much JS seemed satisfied. I also remember something about JS praying to know if h...

In FamilySearch.org they show JS with (43) spouses. Fanny Alger is not one of them. Did she stay in the church after JS's death?
She joined the Universalist Church, after she moved to Indiana.

Re: Fanny Alger, First Plural Wife?

It's suspiciously difficult to tell from the evidence whether Fanny and Joseph were married; which makes it feel suspicious, IMHO. If it wasn't marriage, it is highly likely that Joseph Smith and the rest of the Church would've referred it to marriage after the fact. The lack of record and lack of d...

Re: new website to build bridges

Wonderful site! I love the css, and all the thought and time put into the primer. I agree with Tom, though. Certain aspects on the front page, could be automatically viewed as "anti", since they go against what many members hold to be the undeniable truth. I remember bringing up a few similar concer...

Re: Quick update on another meeting with SP

I do understand your situation is different and you are apparently not under discipline at this point. Your OP did indicate a bit differently than "you probably shouldn't pray" which is different from "you are not permitted pray." I don't know your SP or bishop, nevertheless don't underestimate wha...

Re: Quick update on another meeting with SP

To echo what SD said... OUCH!!! The most difficult part of a faith crisis, is that under the "absolute 100% knowledge" that "the Church is true" (whatever that means), there are very few reasons why someone would turn away from their faith; and it all comes down to the temptations of the devil, and ...
