Re: Rome Temple

The Church needed a brand logo. This is common in today's world. You have to have a visual icon. In the auto world, some companies like Ford, Mercedes Benz and Chevy have long had a brand logo, so the following have all created a previously non-existing symbol to represent themselves outside of jus...

Re: Mental Exercise

We tend to equate doubt with questioning or not believing fully - of keeping an open mind. Church leaders tend to equate doubt with sign seeking - which is seen as having a closed mind. A fair point, but I think we've stumbled onto the biggest issue with GAs addressing doubt. GAs, 99% of the time, ...

Re: Mental Exercise

Although I wouldn't say that I have doubts as I feel I have conclusions (which can be wrong and can change). I had this thought too. I really think it downplays us, when the GA's refer to our "disbeliefs" as "doubts". In order to doubt a belief, you still need to have that belief in the first place...

Re: Mental Exercise

The Church claims to be something greater than the imperfect people in it. I can accept that a person can hurt me. But a doctrine? A historical legend? A policy brought about by revelation? The Church is held to be a system created and directed by God. Most of my "doubts" (though I wouldn't call the...

Re: Worldwide Devotional

I wonder whether these sorts of talks are geared primarily to inoculate believers against doubt than to minister to people that have experienced doubt. I wonder whether the people that have experienced serious doubt have been written off or whether it's more the case that leaders just don't know wh...

Re: End of YSA SS

FWIW i think YSA is one of the better programs of the church. I think gospel principles eases investigators into the church - we have so much jargon and unusual doctrine that people can't be expected to get it straight away. Man, I had the exact opposite problem on my mission. The teachers would al...

Re: Worldwide Devotional

Maybe I'm growing numb. Maybe I've seen too much. Maybe its because I've gotten to know all you great people. Or maybe I just have really low expectations. But these sort of talks don't really phase me anymore. We know it's not true. The evidence is against it. Their worldview is narrowminded. Such ...

Re: Rome Temple

I wish we had left the Versailles Temple and Rome Temple off the grid. I may change my mind, but I don't think so. I think we should put our little temples on ground that isn't historic to another country or religion. We are very universalist in our religion. It's doctrine (or at least pseudo-doctr...

Re: Addition to "Massive Changes to the Temple Endowment": Initiatory & Sealing

I don't know about the ordinance post changes but the one before didn't mention the word love. The actual ordinance itself is very short and mostly consists of pronouncing blessings on the couple in scripture speak. From my understanding, the Christian emphasis on "love" (as we now define it) is mo...

Re: What should be ADDED to the WoW?

Just saw this article , stating that we are now more likely to die from opiod overdose than from a motor-vehicle crash. I know Utah has historically had a pretty bad record with this, and am not sure what the numbers are. But I remember hearing that over 2/3 of the overdose fatalities were caused by...
