Re: A Part of my Story

Dande, after reading your list I had a rather sarcastic thought occur to me. The cast of the TV show "Friends" lied to me in every episode! Real life is nothing like that! Where is my "Central Perk" coffee shop?!?!?! Haha! Yeah... I don't think it's just central to our religion, or religion ...

Re: A Part of my Story

I've been thinking about this a lot lately... and I think our religion, our society, etc, conditions us to believe that "extraordinarily lucky" is the norm. We believe, starting at a very young age, that our lives are going to follow a very specific script: In our youth, we'll excel at our schooling...

Re: Today's Observations

Is essentially how every group or community of people comes to behave eventually, because human nature. Yes, I wish that there were more moderates to help bridge the gap between opposing sides. I believe it's moderates who change the world. Also, the more strongly a person believes in something, th...

Re: Getting back your mojo

You've got a few options:
-Pray to find your lost mojo (hint: It's likely in your pant's pockets from the day before, or lost between the couch cushions).
-Track down those who stole your mojo, and teach them a lesson.
-Purchase some new mojo from your local mojo dealer.
-Make your own mojo.

Re: People Who Were Spared...

Here is my take on it, from a non-literal view. Looking back on ancient Israel, they were God's chosen people, and yet they got picked on, pushed around, beaten up, captured, enslaved, subjugated... and the only thing that got them through, was their belief that God would vindicate them. By the rive...

Re: When you feel the need to apologize for the church

I never apologize for the Church. I don't have that responsibility or right. All I can do is express personal sorrow when practices and policies hurt someone. I agree with Curt. There are two kinds of "sorry". There's the "I accept the blame for and will try to rectify" sorry, and the "I feel sad b...

Re: Asking to be released...

I'm super scared to do this, but I can't take this calling much longer. Any suggestions before I send it? My two-cents: - If you sound wishy-washy, they will try to talk you out of it. " I feel I am not... would like... next week or two" sounds wishy-washy. - Asking to be released is asking for per...

Re: Being safe at Church.

I know that the Church has jumped through all the legal hoops, to ensure that it is illegal to conceal carry on Church grounds, even if you have a permit. Not that it helps much; If people are intent on causing trouble, they will anyways. And for protection, many of those who have gone to the troubl...

Re: Speaking up in class

Just a couple of thoughts: - Remember why you're speaking up. Helping the unorthodox members "stay LDS" and not feel so alone, I think is a very noble goal. Keep that in mind when speaking up. On the other hand, I don't know about you, but at times I feel like I have a lot of negative feelings towar...
