Re: Elder Holland Talk on Reconciliation

There's a big distinction between forgiveness and reconciliation. Reconciliation, by definition, means a restoration of the relationship. Scriptures talk about reconciliation to God, but never mentions reconciling to others (except 1 Cor 7). While it is important to forgive all those who have wronge...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

Looking at it from Bill's possible perspective, if you felt you'd been lied to for years, after giving up your time, a lot of your money, only to find, in your estimation, it's not what it claims, would you feel badly about reneging on a promise? Does anyone know if that letter Bill recieved, and t...

Re: Been holding cards very close to vest.

Hi Codependent! Glad you found us. We always enjoy "seeing new faces" around here. It's tough to be "Stay LDS", as you might call it, where you choose to remain a member (to whatever extent), despite having doubts, unorthodox beliefs, and/or strongly disagreeing with certain Church teachings, polici...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

Question to throw out there? How should members of the Church treat the inactive, less-active, or those like many of us who aren't "all-in" in a traditional sense? Because, come to think of it, I'm not sure how I want to be treated. I just feel very sensitive when it comes to the Church. I hate bein...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

I imagine walking up in heaven with these words, "Forget everything you thought you knew. Eternal truth is so very different than anything that has been represented on the mortal plane." I imagine that there would be an adustment period for everyone. The more fervently you held your erronious belie...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

If you make a choice to sin, thinking you are sinning, and then find it isn't a sin, is it still a sin? That is the question. Interestingly, if the answer to that question is YES then that brings a new set of consequences into play. Example: Say someone is placed on an island at birth, completely i...

Re: God's Law vs Man's Law Paradox

I think the root of your question is, does right action count, if done with the wrong intention. And I think, as far as intentions go, if a twin were to sin because they fell into temptation and lost their head, they'd be much better of than their sibling who chose to commit the same sin because the...

Re: David Bokovoy on Mormon Stories

Is the whole idea of separate dispensations of the fulness of the Gospel with Adam, Abraham, Moses, etc followed by periods of apostasy and then restoration, leading up to the Great Apostasy and then the Restoration with Joseph Smith supported by the Old Testament? Is this narrative just made up wh...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

This is where I’m at too, but I’m one step further. The Book of Mormon can and does bring people closer to God and Jesus Christ, both of whom I am not convinced exist. I think these relationships only exist in our minds, but that doesn’t mean there’s not value to seeking to have those relationships...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

I agree with this, but I think it's important to point out in relation to this that for may of us here our beliefs have changed on the subject. Pre-faith crisis/transition I full believed the whole thing about the BoM, it's origins and what it was. I did not doubt the Lamanites were Native American...
