Re: An Afterlife?

What if this life is like a dream? And the afterlife is when we wakeup to reflect on the meaning of this mortal existence? What if we dream an entire life each night? When we end this life we are actually waking up, only later to fall asleep and dream another entire existence. I personally think it...

Re: An Afterlife?

Amyj, thanks for reviving this thread, it's been an interesting read. I believe in the afterlife. One day I'll learn I was right...or I won't know I'm wrong about it. ;) That's about where I sit. If we are literally just organisms with no eternal souls (which to me is bleak indeed) I still want to m...

Re: Philosophy of Non-Responders 101

It was a hard lesson for me, probably why it took so long for me to get it (and it may change as time goes on). The lesson was, don't spend time on those who don't put any effort in themselves. It's harsh from my 'be kind to all' mindset, but I spent so much time with youth picking them up for scout...

The Prosperity Gospel

I liken this to being told that a particular road was completely safe for worthy church members - by divine protection. One day you get beaten and mugged - maybe your loved one was killed - on this same road. You struggle with feelings of failure because perhaps the divine protection was lacking be...

Re: Myths vs. Facts

I think about this everytime I listen to testimonies on fast Sunday.

Each one of us has our own perceptions of what our reality is. We each percieve the same situation differently like you said, and it is our personal viewpoint that determines our reality.

Re: It's official, so long Scouts

I am hopeful for the new program, and saddened that the association with scouting is ending. I hope the new program is what I've seen so far, that youth will have more control of what the program entails and what they do. I see many negatives in separating from the scouts. Service opportunities, the...

Re: Letting Go

I have found the stages are not like opening a door, moving into another room, then closing the door. For me it is much more like waves. I feel peace for a while and assume I am so great because I am sure I am solidly in stage 5 (pat myself on the back), then a wave crashes down on me and everythin...

Re: Letting Go

Thanks for sharing JAC! I think you can find a way to be honest in the church and still feel the way you do about what truth is. In one sense the great thing about the church is you can believe what you want to believe once you get past the cultural expectations. There are somethings that may have t...

Re: An Interesting Turn of Events

Our marriage has evolved along with our faith evolution as well, and I believe it's been good and growing, I fully understand your feeling of not having to hide it any longer. It's very freeing. Keep the lines of communication open, it's great that you're not only communicating but understanding. I ...
