Re: Testimony, Blessings, and Internal Locus of Control

If there are blessings to be had, besides these, they will come in the next life. But for this life, things are grossly unfair. Was not until recently that I heard the idea of the "Prosperity Gospel", which I don't think would be unique to our church, but is a philosophy and mindset that if you do ...

Re: Harm vs. Purity

Interesting article. I love the harm idea of buddhism. If we had all of our lives and private practices opened up for viewing and scrutiny, it would appall everyone who viewed it. Yet each of us does and do things that to us seem natural, normal, even justifiable as to not a social norm, but not inh...

Re: Homework on Sunday - Help Please

Hi Amy, religious issues aside (which you mentioned weren't a problem) I think your main concern it seems to me is getting your SO on board with you. I hope that you get the support you need, and everything falls into place! It's hard for me to see into the future and correct potential problems befo...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

In general the idea of God being a 'King' makes sense coming from a society where the king was the ultimate Authority. This idea is discussed in The Christ Who Heals . Givens basically asserts that theology changed from original Christianity where God was the benevolent Father to people becoming se...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

10 years is a long time to be in one calling, a lot can happen to a person during that time. Perhaps that is why mostly professional type people make it to GA. Maybe that's why I was never in bishopric. I don't think that there is any way it could be. Could you clarify what you mean in that statemen...

Re: Would you want to be a leader in the celestial kingdom?

I don't think that there is any way it could be. I think we'll all be surprised when we get out of this life and we see whatever is on the other side, how drastically different it ended up being. I've taken a few leadership courses, and my take is that these are only applicable to man, and ultimatel...

Welcome Felix.

It's interesting all of the different answers you will get to the same question, and in the end, you will forge your own path. It's been helpful for me to bounce ideas around here as I navigate my faith evolution.

Welcome to the safe sandbox!

Re: "I AM" . . . Me

I like your interpretation Curt. I had replied to your post and obviously forgot to hit post, and when I came back to this tab, my reply wasn't saved. I have to paraphrase now as I won't be able to be as eloquent as I was before. The main point I was going to stress was that of perception, and I thi...

Re: Meeting with the Branch President

I am late to the party on this thread, but read through it all with anticipation on the outcome. I'm so glad that it went well! I also hope that you and your DH can continue to find peace. I nearly cried as I read this (in a good way) He made it clear on several occasions that he would rather be wit...
