Re: Teaching about the iron rod

Thanks for all the feedback! This helps! Just to clarify, this isn't a required program that was pushed by the ward. They didn't sign assign every family to a group. They asked everybody whether or not they would like to be involved. I wouldn't have signed up for it, but my wife wanted to do it. Abo...

Teaching about the iron rod

Our ward has created "Come Follow Me" Groups. The purpose of the groups is to get together with other families to discuss lessons from the "Come Follow Me" Sunday School manual. The groups are made up of 4-5 families, and we meet once/month. Each month a different family hosts the rest of the group,...

Re: Which excuse is usually more valid?

When is it okay to use those excuses to disallow medical attention to someone who needs it? In short, never. However, as with anything else, when you ask a question of a wide group of people, you will get a wide range of responses. There are those in the church who might respond to an emergency as y...

Re: Raising kids lds when I don’t believe

I will actively teach my kids to be inclusive, loving and Christlike and not to judge others based on their beliefs. I get the opportunity to let them enjoy the standards and fellowship of the church but remove the inappropriate guilt and interview process most adults went through as children. I ge...

Re: New Video Format of Temple Endowment

Interesting...because I bet he doesn't have a calling now and his wife still does...amIright? Which was more important that the church kept one and got rid of one  Haa!!! Good point! I haven't talked to him since they made that change. You guys bring up a lot of great points. Change can be h...

Re: New Video Format of Temple Endowment

That said, I don't know the person's real issue. It could have been a machismo thing or it could have been related to something else entirely. For example, the man could have had an extremely deep belief that ordinances cannot change, not one iota, and it was a case where he recognized an ordinance...

Re: New Video Format of Temple Endowment

When the endowment changed to no longer require women to veil their faces or to hearken to their husbands as their husbands hearken to God, etc. I was thrilled with the changes. I don't hold a recommend, so I haven't seen the changes personally, but it was one thing that always bothered me. Another ...

Re: Women and Girls can now be witnesses to ordinances

Wow!! Thanks for the update. This is great news! Definitely a big step in the right direction. I hope this is moving things closer to extending the priesthood to any member that desires to hold it.

Re: Abuse Prevention Training Required to Work with Youth

So, while I do believe the majority will actually do the 15 minute thing, it now occurs to me that it is possible some will do it to be done and will get nothing out of it. This may make some people's blood boil, but to be honest, I'm one of the click-through people. As soon as I heard about this t...

Re: Ostler's Bridges: A great review

I liked the idea of the 3 pillars to remaining active in the church so much that I devised a poll for readers. I'm a little surprised by some of the results. https://wheatandtares.org/2019/08/14/trust-belonging-and-meaning-polls-follow-up-discussion-of-ostlers-bridges/ Hop over and take the poll an...
