in writing software, is it okay to define a function that receives all of its arguments in global variables?
I would assume suggesting this HAS to be a violation of this groups boundaries. :D

Re: A Testimony (?) of Modesty

This is a bit of a tangent, but related. I recently found out about the concept of "Moral Licensing" ( https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Self-licensing ) One definition is Moral licensing is a a particularly interesting mental glitch: apparently, doing something that helps to strengthen our positive sel...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

It does seem to me that the one line you can't cross over is demeaning or criticizing the top church leaders. But even then, it isn't that simple. Compare Bill Reel to the folks at Infants on Thrones. The IoT guys (and even a few women) are constantly belittling and crticizing the top church leaders...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

Seems to me Bill has been on a downward trend in regards to the Church since the November 2015 policy, and more recently has distanced himself even more after confronting some dishonesty from church leaders. I agree. I am a "premium" subscriber to his podcast (I throw a few bucks his way) and I get...

Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

On Redit From Radio Free Mormon Last evening, Bill Reel received a warning from his stake president who, in company with Bill's bishop, paid him a visit at his home. The ultimatum was quite simple and not unexpected: Either cease and desist your podcasts and posts critical of the LDS Church or get e...

Re: Does voting with our feet work?

I think that the membership can nudge for changes, but it takes quite a large percentage and it takes enough people willing to speak up. I have come to believe that there are only a few folks with butts in pews in church are really wanting any change. They may have a few shelf items, but the shelf i...

Re: Home teacher shot

My stake did have a 5th Sunday lesson on what to do. It was given by an FBI agent and was mainly material from the FBI. It was simple stuff like your first priority is run like hell (not the exact words), if you can't then hide or gather where you can block entrance, and if you have to confront then...

Re: My Tentative Conclusion about gospel convos with Traditional Believers

And yet all those people - paying on net or gross as long as they declare themselves full tithe payers - are still in the minority. Under 25% of members are tithe payers of any kind (full or not). That number is far lower outside the US and Canada. There are very likely in your ward a few active me...

Re: My Tentative Conclusion about gospel convos with Traditional Believers

Anyway, your friend wants multiple wives in the eternities, but his wife's not into it. Sounds like he's a true blue Mormon, alright. I love what Claudia Bushman (wife of Richard Bushman) said about polygamy (don't have the exact quote). She pressed her husband if he would take on additional wives ...
