Re: Quinn's Research on LDS Church Finances

I personally love the story of poverty to success. I think it’s a good example of why we as individuals should look at diversifying our personal portfolios such as looking into Roth IRAs, 401k, stocks, bonds, precious metals, currency exchange, and more. I have always wondered, after reading Rough ...

Re: Parable of the Macaroni Art

I like it. I wish that attitude was more prevalent in church culture. Amen. I work with the youth now and given I don't have much of a "testimony" I just focus on trying to make sure that the youth don't carry around the shame that I did as a youth. What I read in Beefster's comments is "we need mo...

Re: Busy in the Beehive

In reading nibbler's comments, my business training just yells, "your organization is suffering from 'this is the way we do it' syndrome." One way to get out of that is to empower and encourage those lower in the organization to come up with alternate ways of operating. The church has had some of th...

Re: Busy in the Beehive

Welcome lostofgray (not sure if that means you are old like me  or are seeing more things in shades of gray rather than black and white). I certainly would agree with you there is a bit of that. Just yesterday my schedule was Leave at 8:00 am Attend meeting from 8:30-10:00 Arrive home at 10:30 ...

Re: Quinn's Research on LDS Church Finances

My heart sank when I saw the figure $120,000 for GA salary. That's more than the vast majority of Americans will make at the peak of their career. Yes, it's still an order of magnitude less than bigwigs in other institutions and less than a large portion of ministers of other faiths, but when you c...

Re: The Church's History of Tithing

I contend that it's impossible to quantify gross income and that we all chose what net income we tithe. I can name 20 things that philosophically count as income alhough not a single person I know pays tithing on it. To me that means that if you are comfortable with a certain tithing amount then th...

Re: The Church's History of Tithing

To me the distinction is not much of a difference to me. So salaries are paid out of dividends from investments made using my grandparents tithing? Unless the church sold the gold plates as seed money for all investments, it is all "tithing and dividends from tithing". I am much more concerned about...

Re: Boy Scouts allow Girls now

Just to state clearly, the chartering organization would still have the decision on how to proceed. Nobody is forcing individual troops to accept girls. True. In fact the same is true today (and has been for 15+ years) in the Venturing part of scouts (what the 16/17 year olds participate in). Each ...
