Re: Abusing the Priesthood

On the subject of one person being too powerful and misleading others. I listened to a podcast the other day that talked about how the power structure at the top of the church has drastically changed since the way JS mentioned it should be. He had said that the 1st presidency, Q12, AND the church's ...

Re: Daily Scripture Study

rather than read the same book again, and again, and again I'd rather venture out and read other things. I don't have to wait for a vote of common consent by the church to find other things that are scripture to me. I am there with you on this one. I can do better focusing my mind on my breath and ...

Re: Abusing the Priesthood

To get more graphic, I hear stories over and over of women (and girls) that are raped and when they tell the bishop they are essentially told they need to repent and/or are asked to graphically describe the sexual encounter. I don't see that this has any part of the repentance process. Sure if someo...

Re: How can I enjoy staying?

I have been able to pin it on burnout and saying that I am starting to dread Sunday and that I just need a bit of a break to "charge my batteries". I did mention that I feel a bit bad asking as I know the bishop can't just asked to be released and I hated adding to his burden. I actually have done t...

Re: BYU and Cheap Tuition

I just heard a very interesting interview at LDS Perspectives on the history of LDS Education. ... Check out the interview with Casey Paul Griffiths at http://www.ldsperspectives.com/2017/08/16/religious-education-mormon/ I am a podcast junkie. I had LDS perspectives on my list, but didn't find it ...

Re: BYU and Cheap Tuition

I agree with Dande and LH. The benefit part (to the church) of the cost/benefit analysis seems phenomenal and well worth the cost. I'm not going to complain. All four of my kids have gone to BYU for cheaper than they could have gone to a state school here in the east. In my state tuition is very cl...

Re: Miracles and the Availability Heuristic

Example 2: A child in the ward suffers a serious injury or disease. Doctors don't think she'll live. But priesthood blessings, hundreds of prayers and a ward fast later, she fully recovers. Miracle? Maybe. But what about the other child in the bed next to her with similar injury/disease and atheist...

Re: BYU and Cheap Tuition

I think it deals with the college years are the time when most people will change religiously. Quite a few youth disconnect from the church when attending colleges - not just Mormons. I live nowhere near Utah and I can say I see that most of the kids that head off to a university other than BYU/BYU-...

Re: LDS Church Responds to Charlottesville White Supremacist Rally

This is a very good statement. There was a blog just the other day that said the church often issues statements that could be read as supporting several different points of view. I think it is true. The church needs to be clear and not leave room for "wink wink" after reading it. This clarification ...
