Re: Small victories: Open up to my first family member, my cousin.

I share a bit of SD's caution, but at the same time I can say for me that opening up face to face with someone has emotionally helped me immensely. I was very scared to come out (other than anonymously on sites like this). Like many risks, the rewards can be great. I say this for all the lurkers on ...

Re: Sons of Helaman - Life Changing Services

Go read stuff from Natasha Helfer Parker (nickname of "the Mormon therapist"). She strongly states that using the addict word is clinically wrong and more importantly it is harmful to relationships.

Re: The idea of dating outside the church scares my mom

I have to admit I would be much more OK with my son dating outside the church than my daughter. Probably says more about me than anything else.

Re: "You Lost Me"

I think it's fascinating how diverse this forum is when it comes to these things. "You Lost Me" moments for one person might be "You had me at hello" moments for others. And yet we can all come together and proverbially enjoy a beer together. Wouldn't it be great if this was true for the church at ...

Re: Tom Christofferson's Story - Thoughts?

I agree, Roy. As much as our current issues concern me, I still would not choose the earlier time. Tom Christofferson spoke at a very recent gathering in SLC that included many former and current, global church leaders, as well as major names in the LDS LGBTQ+ community. He said, explicitly, that h...

Re: Why hold the line on this?

15:03 And why did BYU finally change its mind? Just follow the profits............... Although the comparison between profits and prophets is clever, I strongly disagree. I believe the reason behind the change is because the current situation was increasingly indefensible. The church does not prohi...

Re: The Gospel =/= The Church

To be fair, Elder Poelman's talk was a long time ago, and multiple, current apostles have said from the General Conference pulpit that there is a difference between the Church and the Gospel. That realization can be a game changer, since it adds an important element of reality and can bring compass...

One small step against false doctrine, one giant leap for mankind.
Any bets on how many decades before BYU-I follows? :-)
