Re: Can't believe it happened to me

Thanks so much for posting Joe. I can relate. Forums like this can be very helpful. I've found lately that in person visits or phone calls can be even more helpful. Feel free to PM me if you ever need someone to talk to. And just because our experiences are so similar don't let that deter you from p...

Re: NYT article: John Dehlin & Kate Kelly face discipline

At the very least it should seem obvious that this action ended up hurting the church more than helping and was ill-advised for that reason alone, if not other ones. My non-member friends who have defended the accusations against us being a cult in their churches can no longer do so and tell me this...

Re: Staying as atheist/agnostic

Critical thinking became so much more powerful and influential in my ideas about the nature of the universe than any warm fuzzie ever could. I agree completely. I let science inform my view of the universe and natural laws, including the history of the world. Spirituality lies in a different realm ...

Re: Can't believe it happened to me

Another way to reconcile what you’re talking about is just to consider the things you mentioned as allegorical or metaphorical (you've probably heard this before, though). I just accept that there are some things science can disprove about a particular religious teaching/claim or historical event. ...

Re: Does anyone here ever actually meet up?

Yeah, they say you're connected to anyone in the world through "six degrees of separation." I'm convinced in the Mormon world it's three, at the most.

Re: Staying as atheist/agnostic

Thanks for the posts everyone. I just wanted to say that I appreciate it. I will say I'm in a state of trying to figure out what I really want and what's best. There's been some great advice and perspectives here. I guess I'm leaning somewhat strongly to atheism being the most likely explanation, bu...

Re: Can't believe it happened to me

I just realized I never came back and said thanks and responded to the comments like I said I would. Hopefully it's not too late, but here goes. eyedempotent, I have presented myself as a believing member on this site but I also love science. I would be glad to discuss the gospel and science if you ...

Re: Does anyone here ever actually meet up?

I think an in-person support group would be a fantastic idea. How about the moderators add a whole different section for meetings? We could post threads based on geography and update them with meetings. Thoughts?

Staying as atheist/agnostic

Hey everyone, I'm new here (introduction thread here ). Anyway, when I started having doubts it wasn't just about one thing or another. I started applying some critical thinking and, to be honest, I think all religion has problems (to my understanding, not trying to criticize others who disagree) an...

Re: NYT article: John Dehlin & Kate Kelly face discipline

Bishop gave a sister the topic to speak on today of priesthood authority. One of her sources was Elder Oaks talk. I've got to admit it's very hard to sit through this today. Feels like they're rubbing it in.
