Re: The culture of marriage

I'm sure believing that marriage (sealing) is required for exaltation factors in.

Look at the ordinance of baptism. People believe baptism is required to get into heaven so some people started baptizing infants to ensure that base was covered. The sooner the better because salvation is on the line.

Re: Introduction Part Two

It's good to hear back. I remember when you went on your mission.

It's also good to hear those stories where "all these things shall give thee experience, and shall be for thy good."

Re: Quick update on another meeting with SP

I've had a chance to read the thread now, probably should have done that first. I know what anxiety feels like ;) so these thoughts usually show up to the party first: Sudden release from a very visible calling. Whispers in WC about asking people not to let you to pray or teach lessons... Congrats, ...

Re: Quick update on another meeting with SP

Late to the game, I've been busy and I haven't had a chance to visit StayLDS much of late. This may have already been covered but... DoubtingTom, you're handling the situation like a champ. I wanted to focus on one aspect, you have another thread out there, Help talking to a spouse , and this concer...

Re: Abuse or Mis-Use?

Here's another Mandela quote:
As I walked out the door toward the gate that would lead to my freedom, I knew if I didn't leave my bitterness and hatred behind, I'd still be in prison.

Re: Primary Kid count

I do a poor job of estimating numbers of people. I'd be good at coming up with BoM battle estimates. "A million people died." <someone counts them> "Uh, there's only 1,532 people among the dead." My ward, I'd guess... 40? But there are some wards in our stake with three million primary kids. They're...

3 - If it happens in my ward - I plan to rush up, hug that girl (or whomever) and bear a testimony that God loves everyone.

Rant done. Thanks.

Re: help me write a talk!

I'm glad it went well.

After all these years have gone by and after and all the talks I've given it still hasn't gotten any easier for me.

Re: Non-LDS take on Urim and Thummim

I try to attend other churches every so often to both widen my perspective and to try to internalize some of the good I find. Last Sunday I attended a Presbyterian church. I attended their Sunday School class and the Urim and Thummim came up! My first thought... I thought I had escaped the LDS churc...

Re: They Live

I saw parts of it on TV years ago. Is the fight scene you're referring to the one where one guy attempts to get the other guy (how's that for specifics) to put on the pair of sunglasses so the other guy will see the world as he does? I suppose there's a metaphor in there someplace for forcing ...
