Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

They won't always tell you and some contradict themselves. For sure but it doesn't hurt to make an attempt to discover what people want out of their church experience. If we can give that to them, we give it to them. If we can't, we cant. It's a challenge. No one wants to feel like they are less th...

Re: Ward treating us like we're inactive?

One thing I believe factors into the equation is that we don't typically ask what kind of attention people want to receive, we give them the type of attention that we think they need. There's a laundry list of expectations we place on people for them to be considered a part of the fold. Our interact...

Re: What IS the Priesthood and why is it needed?

Why do you think people want blessings before surgeries? Do they think God will be bound by a priesthood person asking for blessings so he will whisper to the soul of the surgeon or guide his/her hand? I think it's related to anxiety. We ask for a blessing because we have anxiety and the blessing h...

Re: He totally changed sacrament meeting

As part of the culmination of “Light the World,” members are encouraged to invite friends and neighbors who aren’t members or who attend infrequently to join them in worshipping the Savior during a special sacrament meeting on December 23, 2018. Ward and branch leaders have been asked to plan a Chr...

Re: Protestant Reformation Discussion - What Would You Say?

Joseph Smith did not exist in a vacuum. Christianity itself had already been shaped for a good 1800 years before JS came along. I know an orthodox belief is that Adam and Eve started out on day one with Christianity as we know it today but the teachings got corrupt or lost over time. If you're start...

Shamelessly stolen:
Nobody talks about Jesus' miracle of having 12 close friends in his 30s.
Being able to turn water into wine probably helped.

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

I agree with the premise, I'll just throw this out there. If you are one who believes, you can't see why others don't interpret the data the same way you do? I mean... come on... the magic bullet, right? If you are an anti-conspiracy person, then everything has an explanation. Two people look at the...

Re: Joseph Smith Could Not Have Written the Book of Mormon

Which brings me back to my original post and question: If it wasn't an uneducated JS then whom? How did someone born in the wilds of pre-Columbian North America write it? Putting on my apologist hat - it's one thing to write down current events about contemporary public figures and another thing en...

Re: The Quest for Constant Joy

My question -- how do you keep yourself in that constant state of "enjoyment" that you read about in the scriptures? In a constant state of happiness and excitement about life, in spite of aging, bad behavior of others, obstacles, set backs, situations where people don't affirm you? In spite of the...

Re: Bill Reel about to get excommunicated? >:-(

But what does a leadership team do when someone from the inside is attacking the ship? Let them keep at it? I listened to the Radio Free Mormon podcast with Bill Reel, which is something I don't typically do. In that podcast he made the point that when he attended church he didn't say anything cont...
