Re: Rome Temple

I think one person's personal revelation can be different than another person's personal revelation because we are all unique and require different things. Not to over-trivialize with this example, but take two people that are allergic to peanuts. Person A receives revelation, inspiration, whatever ...

Re: Exposure / Apologists

1. How can you live a life that you feel is honorable and true while being an apologist? At past stops along my journey there was a point where I fit the classic definition of LDS apologist. I'd answer that apologists very much see themselves as being honorable and true to their beliefs. In fact I ...

Re: Rome Temple

This is off topic but I think the subject that we never broach at church is what we do if we receive personal revelation that isn't in harmony with the revelation a church leader receives. I think we often resolve that in our minds by making the assumption that a genuine personal revelation would al...

Re: Pros and Cons of Supplementing

Yes, I try to supplement outside of our church meetings. I think that was the overall spirit of the "home church" initiative, to get people to take the reigns of their own spiritual journies. In practice I see us paring home church back down to a program that recreates the types of instruction we re...

From the article Roy linked: "These apostles now will go all over the world and recap the experiences that they...

Re: A Spiritual Ponzi Scheme

Interestingly in our discussion Sunday the prosperity gospel did not directly come up and our group seemed to have a pretty good grasp on the idea of it raining on the just and unjust alike - which I think was Anderson's whole point. [/url] Generally I think we do a good job at church of recognizin...

Re: Rome Temple

Likewise a few others, including Palmyra and Council Bluffs (both of which are smaller and less costly, of course). At least one of those is very not busy, few sessions per week and low attendance at those few. I've been to Palmyra and unless there was a massive population boom, every sentient life...

Re: Vox LDS growth article

The reason for the success? The "unrelenting focus on the family," writes author Daniel Cox. ... The biggest reason, says Cox, is the Church's continued emphasis on traditional family life and roles. IMO we need to be careful with this one. Maybe I'm an extreme outlier but I don't think the church ...
