Re: I hope Sacrament Meetings get better.

I'll gladly trade wards with you. :P We don't have a lot of announcements in our ward and will often cut out the rest hymn. That usually leaves us with plenty of time. We have youth speakers and frequently, frequently have talks go for 20+ minutes. If the SP is visiting our ward the SP will always t...

Re: 9/17 Nelson Devotional

It was... disheartening. A very high level view of the five truths discussed: 1) We are children of god. We are a chosen generation reserved for the climatic battle taking place between good and evil today. Speculation that in the preexistence we all promised to defend the gospel during "this world'...

Does a Bishop or Counselor ever get up and say: "this is not the position of the Church" (or something more diplomatic?)
Now I have a mental image of Elder Oaks' bishop tapping him on the shoulder mid-talk during general conference.

Re: Extremely Rough Sacrament Meeting

The roughest sacrament meeting I ever sat through was several years ago now. The talk covered three bases: 1) Complaining about critics and doubters. 2) The 14 fundamentals. 3) A story about a gay friend that felt like they received revelation that gay marriage was okay and the speaker telling that ...

Re: Church to allow baptisms, blessings for children of LGBT parents, updates handbook regarding 'apostasy'

Recently the reversal of the POX has come under question. Days after the POX reversal (early April) the church issued many updates to the Church Handbook of Instruction 1. Those updates did not include a reversal of the POX. At the time no one was really concerned, citing that the April updates to t...

Re: Abuse Prevention Training Required to Work with Youth

I suspect that will be handled in one of two ways: 1) I'd be surprised if this training isn't given on a 5th Sunday. There's one coming up in September. It's low hanging fruit for a BP struggling with a topic to cover. 2) With the 2 hour block the people that aren't teaching that Sunday can take the...

Re: Abuse Prevention Training Required to Work with Youth

I guess I'll give the dissenting opinion. I find it odd that there's different counsel in how to respond to abuse depending on whether you're a BP or SP. I continue to struggle with why leaders are counseled to go through church hierarchical channels when reporting abuse rather than the same channel...

Re: Just joined after 2 months of lurking

What Roy said. And yes, I often question if there is a place for me in this church, which is the most difficult part because there are still things that I love about it. I imagine it is very difficult. Procreation feels like it is at the very center of LDS theology. Our limited perspective on the po...

Re: Are we the church of the WoW?

It seems totally backwards to the direction and re-inventing that Nelson has been doggedly doing? So what happened? Who started it? And why. I can think of several possibilities but I think it's related to the rumors about lifting the ban on coffee and tea that went out ahead of the April 2019 gene...

Re: Are we the church of the WoW?

I found the article with the specifics: https://www.churchofjesuschrist.org/study/new-era/2019/08/vaping-coffee-tea-and-marijuana?lang=eng Green Tea, Iced Tea Green tea and black tea are both made from the leaves of the exact same tea plant. The only difference is that the leaves in black tea are fe...
