Re: The Upcoming YSA Face to Face

I'm switching gears, so new post. I sincerely believe that our leaders are approaching this problem in the wrong way. Breaking things down - The problem : Someone feels as though church leaders have been dishonest with them. The current approach : Malign the people that feel this way. They're wrong,...

Re: The Upcoming YSA Face to Face

The larger part of me says that the only reason we're enjoying an era of relatively more transparency is because the church lost control of the narrative. Do the essays exist because someone found some long forgotten information in a vault and decided to share it with everyone or because the "anti-M...

Re: Child Baptism/Family Visit Report

It sounds like it was a good weekend. Kudos for giving a non-traditional talk on baptism. The primary program... I don't know if my family was unique but my kid never sung during primary. From a very young age my kid used the primary program as an opportunity to go for the world record for...

Re: Most of our life is childhood

Are we even physically capable of remembering things as infants? Like we're still in the process of assembling our tape recorder and once it's built we still don't have much experience with using the tapes. However, what about the rest? It's no secret time goes faster as you age. But as children we ...

Re: GA tidbits from stake conference

I'll be that guy. I'm in a funk, the days are shorter, excuse #273, etc. 1) I can imagine the local ward wise-@$$ will start forcibly correcting people that refer to men as the priesthood for years to come. Told ya I'd be that guy, the local StayLDS wise-@$$. ;) 4) Semantics? Renewing an existing co...

Re: How souls choose their parents

It's hard to extract much value from teachings like the preexistence or reincarnation when a part of the premise is that we undergo a memory wipe and hence can remember nothing of our previous life. What good does learning your lesson do if you don't remember it? If there's a complete memory wipe on...

Re: First Time Temple Freakout - You Weren't Prepared

Katzpur, A few years ago I had an experience similar to one of yours. Some overzealous temple worker that was making me jump through hoops that simply don't exist but for whatever reason they were going to hound me until I jumped through them. Over the years I've run into and heard stories about peo...

Re: First Time Temple Freakout - You Weren't Prepared

I enjoy helping in the baptistry.

I've done exactly one initiatory. Mine. I understand it has changed, don't care. The first time was a bad enough experience to turn me off them for good.

If I never did another endowment session I wouldn't miss it. It's overlong.

Re: First Time Temple Freakout - You Weren't Prepared

Question I want to put out there, is why do you think the endowment ceremony is kept so secretive? I honestly don't feel like I had any big revelations, or insights into the universe. I was also disappointed. I've heard, "We don't talk about it, not because it's secret, but because it's sacred." Bu...

Re: Nephite/Almaite/Limihite/Ammulonnite Intregrations

Even when people assimilate into other cultures/groups of people willingly, it's not without its struggles, doubts, and questioning. It's difficult to find belonging in unfamiliar places, with people who value different things than you. I agree with Roy in the sense that if some people deem their c...
