Re: About Me....

If you're referring to the shelf the way it is normally referred to here, keeping things there is generally a bad idea. Shelves can only hold so much for so long before they crash. It is much better to deal with the issues than shelf them IMO. Dealing with them can take time and the end result may b...

Re: About Me....

I think lots of us can equate faith crisis and identity crisis. For so many members the church is such a huge part of their identity and when the faith part comes crashing down we are not only questioning the faith, we are questioning who we are. I in some ways I'm the same person I have always been...

Re: I'm trying to be like Jesus...

WWJD = "Be the better you" That's all? Is that good enough? What's better...shoot for perfection and come up short, or set lower targets and hit it 100% of the time? (hope that didn't sound rude. just tongue and cheek and a serious thought question. Maybe I need to try the green smoothie thing mom3...

Re: Rocky Family Relationships after Faith Crisis not Unique to Mormonism

Robert Kirby wrote an article this week saying In LDS history, such familial disavowal is regarded as senseless persecution for one's strength of conviction. When we do it today to family members who join another church, come out as gay, or switch political parties, it's regarded by some as being f...

Re: I'm trying to be like Jesus...

My biggest struggle is people not following my Jesus. Enough said. Good one, Mom. What was that about witty comments and the Pharisees? ;) More seriously, for me the idea of what Jesus stood for does come from the scriptures. Granted there is very little of his ministry recorded there and we don't ...

Re: What does worship mean to you?

I definitely agree with this line of thinking that the ancients might have wrote down what they hoped for or what they thought God might have done. It's very much like a modern testimony meeting. "I was sick. I got a priesthood blessing. I got better. Therefore God healed me." "We were captive in Eg...

Re: What does worship mean to you?

I think this is a very hard question, partly because it can be very different for different people. I don't know if I can define it, but I know it when I see (or feel) it. I used to work with a devout Muslim guy who did his midday prayers at work. The place didn't give him an actual space as some do...

Re: Help me change my thinking

I understood what Hawk is saying differently. There is a "prosperity gospel" culture in the church. An examples like "Pay your tithing first and your other financial concerns will be taken care of." There are testimonies where people believe that has occurred. Another example is the old "fire insur...

Re: Long Term Effects of Hometeaching -- Jack Mormons and Giving Blessings

My experience isn't as dramatic as yours SD but it has similarities. Thirty odd tears ago I and another woman in my current stake lived in the same ward in another stake. I was her HT, we were both YSA. I was a good Hter in those days and sincerely tried to visit my families monthly and look out for...
