Re: Missionaries behind closed doors

In my mission, there were lots of shenanigans. Lots of human stuff. But here's the thing--the more human you were, the more successful you were, or so I saw. The more exacting and obedient you were, and the less successful and more miserable you were (and everyone around you). My mission was much t...

Re: Youth Bishop Interviews

Yeah, because nobody has called it "petting" outside of an LDS bishop's office since 1962! They just call it rounding second base, or "a little under the shirt action" or getting felt up. Our lingo is impenetrable to our youth. I remember at age 15 never having heard the term before (and literally ...

Re: Proselytizing without Eternal Family mention

IMHO - I don't think most 18 an 19 year old missionaries even think of the complexity of the case nor even know the "policies"/beliefs of the church. They only think of the "normal" two people married with a few kids. I have always found it hard to figure out the day to day afterlife relationships ...

Re: Proselytizing without Eternal Family mention

Jesus Christ. I wish our message was individual discipleship. Everything else is appendages. Nobody ever listens to me though.   I feel the same. Trouble is, that doesn't set us apart from everyone else. My take on it is why do we need to be so different from everyone el...

Re: Hamula revisited

What I am most surprised at is that no family member or other in the know has said anything. That seems to be the way this things usually play out.

Re: Gospel Principles class?

Like some others here, I attended the class as an investigator and new member. In those days it was not a year long class, people only went for about 3 months. A a side note I believe the change to a year long class was so that bishops didn't call all the new members into Primary right away because ...

Re: Questions that may not have answers

Welcome to the forum. I'm glad you found us. Like your husband, I have discovered the Bible to be more reliable and I agree, even the King James translators seem to have gotten it pretty much correct. I do prefer other translations because of the use of more modern English, but I think the Bible is ...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

Benson was radically different as the President than he was as an apostile. I will cross that bridge when we get to it, but I hope, if Elder Bednar becomes the President, it will be after years of Uchtdorf & Eyring leadership in the FP. I actually am interested in Oaks, simply because I could see h...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

Mr. Sneelock I'm too young to know this, but was there a problem with people leaving the church in 1978 after the priesthood policy was changed? I was really young, too, but I remember it enough and my parents have talked about it quite a bit. I think the opposite happened. The ban had dragged on t...

Re: Why the Church cannot change...at least not too much

I agree that Bednar doesn't seem to be a "thinker" and there are rank and file members who understand things better than he does, and I also believe he is little more than a parrot. He's not alone in being a parrot. I think my concern is what others are expressing - there's a high likelihood of him ...
